Gifts, Grants at University Total $6 Million in Year Corvallls-QlfU and grants to Oregon State university this past fiscal year totaled (6,096,112, a 40 per cent la : crease over year ago. Last year's total was 14,381,118 1 Dr. James H. Jensen, OSU president, said of the $6,096, 112 total, 18,229,207 came from Federal funds and 1866,' 905 from other sources. The major share of the funds, $4,182,101 was for re search. And the Federal gov ernment provided $3,603,151 of this amount. Largest single grant was $959,590 for construction of the OSU Marine Sciences Laboratory on Yaqulna Bay. The grant came from the Area Redevelopment Admin istration. The $6,098,112 was divided as follows: $4,182,101, re search; $484,826, Institutes; $959,590, construction; $14, 000, overseas training; $294, 283, scholarships; $5,873, stu dent loan funds; $92,284, books, supplies and equip ment; $49,678, advancement of teaching; and $13,477, mis cellaneous. Funds Available In addition to the $3,873 in student loan funds given to OSU outright, more than $450,000 was made available on "borrowed'' basis by the National Defense Education Act, United Student Aid Fund. OSU Dads Club, and Phi Kappa Phi, scholastic , honor society. The funds arc not included in the annual gift ' ana grant total. , ' Research granta were re ceived by OSU'a Science Re search Institute, the agrlcult ural and forestry research divisions of the Agricultural Experiment Station, the En gtneerlng Experiment Station. and many of the teaching de partments.
