TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON St. Peter's Plans 35th Anniversary Of Its Founding The 35th annlvenary of the founding of St. Peter's Luth ' eran congregation will be cel ebrated Sunday in both morn ing services, at 8:15 and 11 ' a. m. The organizing pastor, the Rev. Harry H. Young. Port land, will be the guest preach' er. His sermon topic will be, "Praise God by Building the Walls of Zion." ' A church potluck dinner ' will be held after the second service in Hawthorne park, ' or, in case of rain, in the base- ment of St. Peter s church, Originally St. Peter's was organized as St. Peter's Luth eran Church of Ashland. Since, however, the member '. ship soon was predominantly , from the Medford area, a .building site was purchased two years after the founding, " on Aug. 26, 1930, at East Main ' st. and Portland ave. A year : later a chapel-parsonage was built there. Opened Naw Fields When just out of the sem inary, Mr. Young was com. missioned in 1024 by the for mer Oregon and Washington District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod to "Serve Roseburg, Medford, Montague, Calif., and to open new fields along the South' ern Pacific Lines." Soon after he arrived with Mrs. Young living In Roseburg until Jan uary 1826. From then until 1931' the Youngs lived in Ash land, from where they moved to t h e Portland ave. chapel parsonage. While serving St. Peter's, , Mr. Young also or ganized congregations at Ash land and Grants Pass, which today are known as Grace and St. Paul's, respectively The Youngs have three children, Mrs. E. The Sun day school buses will oper ate on the regular Sunday school routes, approximately one hour earlier. The Rev. and Mrs. Donald Collins, missionaries to Li beria, Africa, will be the guest speakers at the Sunday service at the church at 7:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Collins have served one term as mis sionaries under the World Wide Evangelization Crusade. Mr. Collins Is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Lewis Collins, Central Point. He received his education at Crater Lake school and Prairie Bible Insti tute, Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. The school is the temporary- meeting place of the church as plans are developed for the construction of a new sanctu ary and educational unit at the corner of East Jackson st. and Berkeley Way. The Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the church, will preach s sermon entitled "Pa cem in Terris," as a tribute to the life and contribution of Pope John XXIII. Music for the service will be played by Mrs. Raymond Powers, with Maynard W. Hadley as the guest soloist singing "God Speaks." During the worship hour. child care will be provided in the school health room for the children under three years of age. A class for three, four and five year olds will meet in the school band room. First through fourth graders will attend the opening portion of the church service and then be dismissed to their class ac tivities. Fifth graders and older are invited to attend the entire service through the summer months. Family Picnic Sunday an all-church fam ily fellowship picnic will be held at TouVelle park, begin ning at 2 p.m. Each family is to take its own picnic and table service. Coffee, punch and ice cream will be pro vided. Families may take any games and sporting equip ment that the group might en joy. Tuesday the regular busi ness meetings of the church will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hensel man, 2108 Woodlawn dr.
