Portland State to Train Peace Corps People (or Turkey Portland - A Peace Corps program to train 47 Ameri cans for service in Turkey will be established at Port land State college this sum mer. The $125,000 federally sup ported program has received final approval from Peace Corps headquarters In Wash' ington, D. C, according to project officer Dr. John Dart professor of geography at PSC. Another Turkish train ing project also is scheduled at Georgetown university this summer. Portland State was selected for the Turkish project be cause of the college's grow ing reputation in the field of Middle East studies, Dr. Dart said. PSC has the only fed' erally supported undergrade uate program in Middle East studies in the nation. Volunteers are expected to arrive in Portland Aug. 16 and begin training Aug. 19. The group will fly In from Puerto Rico where they have been enrolled in a physical conditioning program, Dr Dart said. The group will leave Portland Nov. 2 for two weeks home leave and addi tional training in Turkey. Lug Nuts Removed From Truck Wheel What could have been serious accident occurred early this week when some' one removed the lug nuts from the left rear wheel of a pickup truck. The owner, unaware that the nuts had been removed drove from the Medford Bowling Lanes, 821 North Riverside ave., and was the Highway 82 overpass when the wheel came off. Claude Hershel Hatfield, 1310 East Gregory rd., told Medford police Tuesday after noon that his truck sustained about $100 damage. Also taken from the pickup were the four hubcaps, police re ported. (UPI) Grange News At the- recent Phoenix Grange meeting a visitor, Mrs. Margaret Crouch, home economics chairman of Dist rict 1, was escorted to the master's station. Slides showing the destruc tion of the Columbus Day storm were shown during the literary program, which pre ceded the regular meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Scott were elected to become mem bers of the Grange. Mrs. Crouch told of various home economics contests plan ned for the near future, and the HEC scholarship fund. The next visitation meeting will be at Upper Rogue Grange today. Phoenix Grange will celebrate this event June 25.
