J. 8 A Service Traininq Courses Under Way at . - iraltilna A Rprlps nf service training courses is being conducted at the Free Methodist church each Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. lor the Sun day school teachers and work ers from the various depart ments. Miss Grace Andrews Is teaching the class for the adult department; the pastor, the Rev. Roland Stewart, the class for young teens; Mrs. Stewart, Junior department; end Mrs. Mclvin Lee, nursery department. These classes are designed to prepare the teach ers for more effective service In the Sunday school. A men' prayer group meets at the church at 6:30 a.m. Sunday to pray for the services of the day and to share prayer requests. R. E. Cull. By that time the goal of $6,000 in faith missionary promises for the next twelve months is expected to be reached. r The Rev. and Mrs. Harry Downey, veteran missionar ies to Africn, will conduct tonight's 7:30 o'clock service and will have charge of Sun day's 11 a.m. service. Mr. and Mrs. Downey expect to return to the African field next November. Arriving in Mcdford to speak at the closing mission ary service Sunday evening will be Oregon district super intendent, the Rev. N. D. Da vidson, Salem. Mr. Davidson will present at that time 28-minute technicolor sound film entitled "I Was a Witch Doctor." Filmed in Guate mala, this film portrays the conversion of a Guatemalan witch doctor. Ho is now minister in an Assemblies of God church in Guatemala. This was part of the class's study of rocks. , Film-Messages Scheduled in Nazarene Series A series of film-messages is currently being given dur ing the Sunday 7 p.m. serv ices at First Church of the Nazarene, 320 N. Holly st. The pastor of the local church, the Rev. Harold San- nor, who recently returned from the British West Indies and Panama, has announced Sunday's series will consider the southern portion of the island of Trinidad with par ticular emphasis on San Fer nando where he held special meetings. This series is un der the general subject, "Called to the Caribbean." The approach of pentecost is being considered in the Sunday school hour at 8:45 a.m. and the 11 a.m. worship services. Pastor Sanner will speak on, "The Spirit of Fire", which is the second in a series leading up to Pente cost Sunday. The theme will be "My Redeem er." . 1957 Award of Merit Winner ff CHURCH NEWS Ml sS National Religious Publicity Council Area Missionary Being Assigned to French Polynesia Jack Hedal, southern Ore gon district missionary for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has been assigned to French Polynesia. Announcement of his ap pointment was made by Elder Harley J. Davidson, pastor of the local church, Tenth and Ivy sis., after Mr. and Mrs. Hedal returned from the In stitute in Evangelism held In Independence, Mo. Mr. Hedal will attend the University of Oregon this summer to study French, leaving for his new assign ment in February. Assum ing the missionary work in this district this month is El der Don Balsiger, former pastor in Sherwood, Ore. Mr. Balsiger is married and the couple has five children. This is his first general church ap pointment. Mr. Balsiger will visit the Medford congregation Tues day, May 27, with Seventy Luther Troyer of the Boise, Idaho, district. At the 11 a.m. worship scr- Aldersgate Plaque To Be Dedicated First Methodist church will observe the 225th anniver sary of John Wesley's Aiders gate experience on Sunday. Beginning with May 24, 20 million Methodists of world Methodism will celebrate this spiritual experience which started John Wesley on "the world is my parish" preach ing mission, and led to the founding of the Methodist Episcopal church. A plaque, commemorating this Aiders gate experience of 1738 will be dedicated and placed in the foyer. The Hofmos have spent considerable time in the Scan dinavian countries and wear native costumes. They will sing Scandinavian songs and show color films.
