The tournament will be held at Glendovcr .club in Portland. Medford's linksmen are to leave today for the tourney site. The Tornado won the 16-tcam upstate meet last week end, the district last Monday and is unbeaten this season in some 10 other two, three and four-way matches. With their success they are one of the favorites in the state meet. The four compiled an amazing 299 district score on a 74 by Clark and 75s by the others. Miller is a senior, Clark and Knight juniors and Olson a sophomore. Medford Dethrones Grants Pass In 6 A-1 Track; 7 Records Fall B 7 Myrtle Creek - Rogue Riv er high's Rogue league titlists, taking five firsts and bashing two records, nicked Myrtle Creek by one point here Sat urday for the District 6 A-2 track and field crown. The strung Chieftains nosed the Vikings 82 to 81. St. Ma ry's was third with 73. Phoe nix had the edge with 33 Vt points in a close battle for fourth place. Sutherlin scored 321.2 points and Eagle Point 32 in the 12-school meet. St. Mary's and Myrtle Creek each took three firsts and Phoenix, Glendale and Eagle Point each one as six district records were excelled. Three double champions were crowned. Don Sayler of Rogue River won the high hurdles in a record 14.7 and the pole vault at 12 feet 6 inches. Jack Salter of t h e Chiefs was victor in the mile with a record 4:27.1 and in the half-mile with 2:02. Ross Barkhurst. Myrtle Creek, set a new time of 9.85 in the cen tury sprint and won the discus. Records included a 211-6V4 Javelin throw by Jim Cal houn, St. Mary's, a 20.5 low hurdles run by Sam Charters, Eagle Point, and a six-foot high jump by Ron Salmon, Myrtle Creek. First and second placers qualified for the Oregon A-2 meet. St. Mary's Jim ,webb also met the standard to qual ify in the 100. The rry Ducks Win, OSU Loses In Baseball United Press International Oregon's Ducks edged Wash ington 3-2 at Seattle and Ida ho upset ihe Oregon State Beavers 9-6 at Moscow to throw the Northern Division baseball race into a virtual tie Friday. The win left Oregon with an 8-3 record in second place in the division behind the de f e n d ing champion Beavers, who now have a 6-2 mark. The Ducks collected their victory on a two-run, bases loaded single by Jeff Allen in the eighth inning. Arba Ager stopped Washington on eight hits. Oregon State suffered its loss despite home runs by Veeter South and Gene Hil liard. Steve Clark was the losing pitcher. Eugene 6 SPORTS CAR MEET The Siskiyou Sports Car club will hold its Spring Auto Cross today at the Medford Armorv. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Medford's Black Tornado, bolstered by five individual victories and a one-two-thrce sweep in a sub-two-minutc half-mile, nosed the defending Grants Pass high Cavemen by 2', j points for the District 6 A-1 track title here Satur day in a meet which saw sev en records tumble. i Pulling from behind in the 13th event, when Steve Toews, Jim Snodgrass and Dennis Brumback, finished in front in that order in the half mile, Medford stayed on top with a second in the relay to edge the Climate city team 151 to 148'.4. Crater's third in the relay eave it a 49'z to 46'i nod over Klamath Falls for third place. Ashland scored 37'i. Highlighting ine recora breaking was a 14-foot, 1-inch pole vault by Gary Van Ko ten, Grants Pass, so far as known the best by an Oregon high schooler this year. Three Medford Marki Three of the records fell to Medfordiles and three to GP thinclads. Brumback ran a 4:25.5 mile for the Tornado to shatter a mark which had j been in the book since 1947. j Mike Deibclc, who won the j 220-yard dash for Medford, ran a 21.8 prelim to smash a standard which had stood since 1034. The other Medford record setter was Toews with a 1:57.7 half-mile. I Bob Shepard, Grants Pass, I set a new high of 6-3 'i in the high jump and he teamed i with Brad Lewis, Fred Perry and Rich Ireland for a 1:29.9 new best in the half-mile re lay. The other standard fell to Walt Smith, Klamath Falls, with 220-1 Vi in the javelin. Four men actually bettered Toews' year-old half-mile mark of 2:00.3. Snodgrpss was clocked in 1:58.9; Brum back in 1:59.1, and Don Piper, Klamath Falls in 1:59.8. Tom Snarlin had a second place pole vault rf 13 feet which : also beat the old mark of 12-1U4. Grants Pass captured seven firsts and gained 13 state meet spots. Medford has 11 berths In state. Crater, along with Paul Bransom's 2I-6V2 broad jump first, grabbed five state meet spots. is-iamam Falls and Ashland each pick pd un three. Double winners were Shep ard. with a 19.7 triumph in h low hurdles as well the high jump, and Deibele with a 9.9 century along with the furlong win. Shepard also was second in the 100. Don Driskell scored Med ford's other first with a 14.8 high hurdles time. For the Cavemen of GP Marty Bauer won the shot out with Si-IT2 Theron Bone the discus with 150 feet and Ireland In the 440 with 50.0. Medford stale meet placers with seconds were Chuck Kimball, shot put. 49-73i, which was B ahead of team mate John Tungatc, Hom mons in the broad jump, 21-2, one-fourth inch better than j the Tornado's Jim Cain, Snod grass in the half, and the re-1 lay team with 1:30.9. Grants Pass will send Spar lin in the vault, Randy Clark ! in the high hurdles, 15.0, Shepard in the 100, 9.95, and Lindquist in the 440, 50.0. ' For Crater Bransom also will go north with a second spot 20.3 in the hurdles. Ashland will send three second place men, Tom Huff in the javelin, 191-lVi. Gerald Brown in the mile, 4:29.5, and Jim Lamb in the high Jump, 6-1. Klam ath will send Bill Mills with a 145-6' 4 second in the dis cus. Crater. 10.1, 100, Piper, 880, and Scott Hampson, Medford, 50.8 quarter-mile. Bill Coe, GP, in the pole vault, 12-8, and Brumback in the half-mile, met the stan dards but only two men from a school can go to state in any one event.
