Cub Scout News Cub Pack 35 Cub Scout Pack 35 recent ly held their regular meeting in the First Presbyterian church in Jacksonville, when Edward A. Hinkle initiated several boys into the bobcat rating of Cub scouting. They were Larry Canty, Danny Fields. Dennie Canty, Mark Merriman and Clarence Snow. Larry Canty is reluming to the pack and Terry Herlsch transferred from California, Awards were given with Harlan Gigle and Dan Taylor receiving the lion badge and Terry Herisch, Steve Dyer and Steve Cosier earning the bear badge. Silver - arrows went to Kelly Peacock and Harlan Gigle for their achieve ments. Den 4 displayed flowering trees, which they had made from painted manzanita branches and artificial flow ers. Slides were shown by Dr. Dyer of the Hart mountain country of eastern Oregon in which he had photographed ancient petroglyphs still ex isting on rock formations in that area. Parents of members also attended. Salem-WPP-Bids will be re ceived by the State Highway j Commission June 4 on 27 projects estimated to cost nearly $11.5 million. Largest project on the list involves more than seven miles of grading for a new section of the Columbia River highway between Celilo and Biggs in Wasco and Sherman counties. Individual projects, by counties: Baker-Stone base and oil ing on west unit of Rock creek - Haines section about three miles west of Haines. Benton - Improvement of Bowers slough section of Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis. Plans call for 1.41 miles of grading, asphal- tic concrete paving, and con struction of a structure over Bowers slough. Clackamas-Three projects: New bridge over the Molalla river as part of an improve ment on the Canby-Aurora hill section of Pacific High way East; grading and paving 0.14 mile of N. W. Wade st. in Estacada: and a rock pro duction project four miles west of Government Camp. on the Mt. Hood highway to pro duce 14,100 cubic yards of crushed rock in stock pile.' Douglas - Two projects: Grading, paving and signing 4.6 miles of Winchester-South Umpqua river section of In terstate 5. The project is lo cated between Winchester in terchange and South Umpqua river in Roseburg; improve ment of 0.06 mile of Umpqua St. in Sutherlin. Gilliam - Project 8.3 miles east of Arlington involving sections of the Columbia Riv and Heppner highways which will be inundated by the John Day reservoir. Harnev-Grading and oiling on the north unit of the Riley Juniped Ridge section of the Lakeview-Burns high way. Included in the project are three bridges over Silver creek. Klamaih-Traffic signal re vision in Klamath Falls at 13 intersections in the city busi ness district. Lana - Roadside improve ments along 12.97 miles of the Goshen-Cottage Grove section of Pacific highway, starting about six miles south of Eu gene. Lincoin-0.41 mile of grad ing and paving for slide cor rection about two miles east of Newport on the Corvallis- Newport highway. Linn - Channelization for the Clear Lake - Belknap Springs highway where it joins the South Santiam high way. Multnomah - Five projects: Construction of 412-foot rein forced concrete union ave.. Swift rd. interchange on Min nesota freeway: illumination of the North Shaver st.-Morrl son bridge interchange unit of the East Bank freeway; construction of a median bar rier on the Highlands inter change-Jefferson st. section grading and paving of S. E, Lawrence St., Gresham, from S. E. Spruce ave. to S. E. Ho can ave.: and asphaltic con crete overlay on the existing Beaverton-Hillsdale highway for a distance of 1.S5 miles between the Washington county line and Hillsdale. Polk-Grading and paving on the Baskett slough-Rick-reall section of Pacific High way West. Umatilla-Gradlng and pav ing West Jennie ave. for ai distance of 0.21 mile in Her-miston. Wasco-West The Dalles Un ion Pacific railroad overcross ing and Brewery grade under- crossing. Plans call for a 333 foot steel girder overcrossing and a 182-foot reinforced con crete undercrossing. Waico and Sherman -The Celilo-Biggs section of the Columbia River highway, about 12 miles east of The Dalles. Project Involves 7,22 miles of grading and two structures. Councilman Is Named in GP Grants Pass-Gordon Chris tiansen, Grants Pass business man, was appointed to the Grants Pass city council last night to replace Bob Pruitt, who resigned because of tne pressure of business. The council also called for bids to remove a building on the old Safeway property which the city recently pur chased for a municipal park ing lot. . Bids will be opened June 5, with a minimum acceptable bid of $28,000. Other stipula tions of the bids must include an agreement not to sell it for any use which would gener ate automobile traffic be tween 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and ownership can not be trans ferred to a third party within 15 years without approval of the city. The council also accepted the bid of Fred Stubbert, Springfield, which totaled $35,750, to build about 25,000 feet of curbs and gutters in volved in the 1963 street im provements program in the city, . The Grants Pass branch ol the U.S. National Bank sub mitted a low bid of 2,7297 per cent interest rate for $77,- 307 worth of Bancroft oonas for improvements in the city. Consumer Measure Returned Again Salem - IBP1 - The Senate Thursday reversed its action of Wednesday in a 30-minute wrangle which included charges of lobby influence, and sent a consumer protec tion measure back to com mittee for the second time in 24 hours with orders to change it back to its amended form. The measure would pro hibit quantity limits on adver tied merchandise, and restrict "loss leader" sales: The Interim Committee on Small Business sponsored a bill patterned after the New Mexico consumer protection law, but the Senate financial affairs committee determined it was unconstitutional, and tabled It. - - Later, at the request of sponsors, the measure was brought back to life and amended to be similar to a California law.
