Consumer Measure
Returned Again
Salem - IBP1 - The Senate
Thursday reversed its action
of Wednesday in a 30-minute
wrangle which included
charges of lobby influence,
and sent a consumer protec
tion measure back to com
mittee for the second time in
24 hours with orders to
change it back to its amended
form.
The measure would pro
hibit quantity limits on adver
tied merchandise, and restrict
"loss leader" sales:
The Interim Committee on
Small Business sponsored a
bill patterned after the New
Mexico consumer protection
law, but the Senate financial
affairs committee determined
it was unconstitutional, and
tabled It. - -
Later, at the request of
sponsors, the measure was
brought back to life and
amended to be similar to a
California law.
