MONDAY, MAY 13. 1983 MEDFORO MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON High School Teacher Wins Medford Jayceettes Award Mrs. James Butler Ii the 1863 winner of the Merit Award of the Year presented annually by the Medford Jayceettes. Mrs. Butler'i telection waa announced at a luncheon giv en Saturday at North's Chuck Officers Installed Mrs. Edward A. McGinty was elected president of the auxiliary to Post 15 of the American Legion at elections held last week In the Med' ford American Legion hall. Mrs. W. H. Sutter and Mrs- Walter Collins were elected first and second vice presi dents. Elected secretary was Mrs Earl Blgalow and other offi cers are Mrs. Ross Mlnneci, corresponding secretary; Mrs, Charles Wiley, treasurer; Mrs. Clark Walker, sergeant at arms; Miss Margaret Kerr, historian; Mrs. Leo Williams, chaplain: Mrs. H. C. Alford, Mrs. H. C. Goldsmith and Mrs. Herb Glfford, executive board members. Mrs. Fred Sweeney and Mrs. Edward Feldman were presented with membership Insignias for 3D and 3D years of continuous membership in the auxiliary. Delegates elected to attend the department convention in August at Pendleton are Mrs. Blgalow, Mrs. McGinty, Mrs. Minnecl, and Mrs. Collins. Al ternates are Mrs. Sutter and Mrs. Goldsmith. . Plans were made for a cof fee hour which will be serv ed May 22 for those becom ing United States citizens in Medford that day. The auxil iary also will entertain the local delegates to Girls State on May 20. Other guests will be the representatives from Medford who were members of the 1062 Girls State group. Wagon. Mrs. Everett Payton, Jayceettes president, present ed the winner a silver en graved plate. Mrs. Butler was chosen from six candidates proposed by women's groups of the valley. She was sponsored by Alpha Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Mrs. Butler, who teaches at Medford High school, is the mother of two children and in addition the family keeps two foster chil dren. She is a member of the YMCA board of directors, of Medford branch, American Association of Unl v e r s i t y Women, served as a block captain for the recent drive of the American Cancer society and works in Roosevelt Par ent-Teacher association During the luncheon the candidates for the annual Miss Rogue Valley contest of the Medford Junior Chamber of Commerce were presented In a style show given by Buret son's store. The Miss Rogue Valley pageant will be held May IB at 8 p.m. in the Med ford High school auditorium Consumer Protection To Be Topic for Illinois Valley Unit Illinois Valley-Illinois Val ley Home Extension unit will hear a lesson on "Consumer Protection" at a meeting to be held Tuesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Douglas Hanby Lesson leaders will be Mrs. Henry Gammel and Mrs. Walter Farmer. Luncheon will be served at noon by a committee and a business meeting will follow. -Mrs, John Alstrom, who at tended the recent convention of the Oregon Home Econom ics Extension council in Cor vallis, will give a report. Mrs. Homer Snider of the Josephine County Extension committee will conduct in stallation of officers. j r 1 ' '' I V Three members of the Medford High school eholr will be featured soloists in "The Requiem Mass" to be sung as part of the annual vocal music concert to be presented by vocal groups Tuesday, Msy 14, et 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. They ere (left to right) Jarl Dyrud, Roland Gangstee end Jean Allen. This will be the first time that a work of this type and length has been attempted by the choir. The Sophomore choir will elso present numbers. Piano Pupils Give Recita A piano recital was held recently by students of Mrs. Eurle Fichtner at the home of Mrs. Robert Dickey, 201 Windsor avenue. The students presented popular and clas sical selections. Those who participated were, Jeffrey Casterline, Brenda Nelson, Bob Dickey, Julie Casterline, Kirk Sim mons, Joyce Casterline, Kathy Dickey, Robin Cossette, John Casterline, Teresa Allen, An nette Spaur, Jim Casterline. To add to the enjoyment of the program an original num ber composed by Julie and Jeffrey Casterline was also played. Following the recital re freshments were served by Mrs. Dickey and Mrs. Fichtner. Mrs. Behnke, chairman of the scholarship committee, announced that the first an nual grant-in-aid of the local Gamma Nu chapter of DKG, had been - conferred on Miss Tonkin, who is an honor stu dent at College of the Siski- yous. The chief speaker was Mrs. Amy Vandevere, formerly a Siskiyou county teacher, now of Central Valley High school in Redding. . The program will include a report on national and state regulations of interest to mem bers. Lawrence Tweedy will talk on the work of the Jack son County Juvenile court and detention borne, as associated with the Children's Farm Home at Corvallis. The latter is supported by the WCTU. Mrs. Aaron Neufold will lead the devotional period, and Mrs. Harry Daughtery will read an article entitled "A Smoker's Letter to His Son."
