MeMORDjJjRIBUm Mcdford, Or.. Thuri . May 9, 1963 Grange News Pomona Grange About 100 members of Jackson County Pomona Grange met in Shady Cove recently when Melvin Latlie, master, presided. In an agriculture report, Roscoe Roberts, state over seer and a local dairyman, re reported the HB 1376, a milk price bill, was out of commit-; tee and on the floor of the j House. The Pomona Grange i legislative committee has sent j word to Jackson county rep-' rcsentatives that the local group favors the bill. Dee Hendricksen stated that it was too early to assess frost damage to fruit trees. Delmar Smith reported that honey bees are the most re sistant to poison of any bee, but that it cannot do the job of pollinization needed with the present high percentage of spray poison it encounters. A memorial service was ar ranged by the chaplain, Willie McLean. Tableaus were given and a solo was sung by Mrs. John Patrick. Bert Caster spoke on the ! 1964 wheat program. He ex plained that there are four main objectives in the pro gram, fair price for producer ! and consumer; an orderly re duction of stocks; protection of other commodities, and re duction of government costs. He stated there would be a new market quota, a new na tional allotment and the wheat growers income would stay at a favorable level. j He urged all wheat growers to register in time to vote May 21. Myrtle Hixson, home eco nomics chairman, reported that there are 15 active groups 1 in the county with 233 mem bers. A Home Economics lunch eon, honoring past chairmen, will be held May 8 at Upper Applegate Grange. Mrs. Crouch, district chairman, will be there and all members are invited. Mrs. Larry Sheehan, who is moving from the area, re signed as Ceres and Mrs. Ethel Lacey was elected to replace her. Among resolutions present ed to the Grange was an en dorsement of the address given before a joint meeting of the Senate and House com mittee on the revision of the j state constitution. In the ad-1 dress. C. H Brooks of the Ore gon State Grange legislative committee, reminded legisla tors that the Oregon constitu tion always has been consider ed a fine document except for a few outmoded rulings, and that all the people wanted was to have these rulings changed. He said the Oregon State Grange has gone on rec ord as opposing any changes which remove a single right of the people and Grangers feel the new constitution would do this. He urged the two commit tees to bring the old constitu tion up to date and present it to the people, and asked them to vote down the new constitution and thus save the taxpayer hundreds of dollars by keeping it off the ballot. Alva Walker was elected as Insurance delegate to the an nual meeting in June and Mrs. Willie McLean as alter nate delegate to the state convention. Central Point Grange The recent meeting of Cen tral Point Grange opened with the officers seating drill. Re ports of standing committees were given. Those reporting were Arnold Bohnert, agricul ture, stated that prices on hay and grain were looking up. Delmar Smith reported on the number of cattle and swine slaughtered in a local meat plant. Dee Hendrickson reported on the horticulture situation. HEC chairman Mrs. Morris Frink asked all Central Point Grange women to bring tand wiches for the meeting May 17, as this will be a special event when Roxy Ann Grange will confer the third and fourth degrees on candi, dates from several Granges at the Central Point hall. On the display table were photos of mothers of Grange members, and a decorated cup and saucer sent by Mrs. Wal ter Mang who now lives at Santa Cruz. The next meet ing of the HEC club will be held with Mrs. Mad Madscn May 22. The lecturer Mrs. James Cornutt presented a Mother's Day program. DANMOORE HOTEL 12)7 SW Mormon Si.
