3 A. SUNDAY. MAY i, 1963 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGON Zone Change Request Referred Back to Meeting of Council, Commission A request for a zone change for 30.3 acre at Blddle rd. and Crater Lake highway to permit-construction of a tour ist motel complex was re ferred back to a joint meeting of the Medford planning com mission and the city council at the letter's meeting Thurs day night. The action to defer was unanimously taken by the council despite a recommenda tion by the planning commis sion that the zone change be granted. The applicants asked to have the property rezoned from single family to limited commercial. Principal objector to the re quest was Councilman Robert Baccus, in whose ward the property is located. May Be Encroachment Baccus admitted the loca tion was excellent for a tour ist motel complex, but was concerned that it might con stitute "an encroachment on potential residential areas" in the vicinity. Plana for the property, if the request were to be grant ed, were outlined for the coun cil by Attorney Manville Heisel, representing the prop erty owners. He said a mini mum of 120 motel units were contemplated by the develop er? together with other tour ist facilities such as a restau rant, gasoline station and cer tain recreation developments, In other action, the council voted to: -Vacate a portion of the alley along the north side of 10th St. between Riverside ave. and Bear creek. Appro Zona Change -Approve a change of zone from single and two family to multiple family for the south half of the westerly six lots of Block 4, Park addi tion. -Grant a change of zone from single family to limited light Industrial for property located on the north side of Highway 09, east of the state highway and state police of Student in State Competition Central Point - An expert ment by Mike Guss, Crater High school senior, has been selected by a science talent search committee as one of 13 experiment to be entered in the final judging in slate com Million at the Oregon Mu .' seiim of Science and Industry in Portland this weeK end.
