Second Graders to Take Communion Second grade students of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine catechism classes will receive their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 12. it has been announced. The event will take place in Sacred Heart Catholic church at the 8:30 a.m. mass with the Very Rev. Carl Mai officiating. Mra. Randall Leon has been preparing the chil dren for the reception of the sacrament at classes held every Saturday morning dur ing the school year. Later in May another First Communion ceremonies will be scheduled for other mem bers of the Saturday classes. According to Mrs. Leroy Stuart, chairman of teachers, the dates of the annual vaca tion achool of religion have been set from June 10 to 21. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day from Monday through Friday for the two-week period. Volunteer drivers will be needed for transporting chil dren to and from vacation school classes. Campaign Started For Second Bus A campaign for a aecond new school bus for Rogue River academy, purchased by trading stamps, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with an Amateur Hour at Lincoln gymnasium, 608 Bartlett st. Those attending the even ing program are to take stamp books for the project, and a prize will be awarded the person donating the largest number of books. Family of Year To Be Selected To mark the beginning of National Family Week, St; Luke's Methodist church, 2320 Si-Jklyou blvd., will name its Methodist Family of the Year during the 11 a.m. worship service on May 5. Several weeks ago members of the congregation had an opportunity to make nomina tions for this honor. Since that time a committee has been at work to make the fi nal section. Its choice will be made known on Sunday when Mr. and Mra. Hunter Dixon, former recipients of the award will make the presentation. During the service the altar choir, composed of junior and junior high age boys and girls, will sing. The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Claude Griffin. Mrs. Charles McDonald will assist at the organ. George Reed will serve as a lay speaker during the ser vice when he shares with the congregation what the prac tice of stewardship has meant to him. Farewell Party Held tor Pastor A farewell party honoring Pastor Bnd Mrs. C. C. Weis was held by Seventh-day Ad ventist church members Sat urday night, April 27, in the Central Point Grange hall. Pastor Weis, who has been with the Medford and Shady Point churches for the past eight months, left Wednesday for Washington, D. C, where he will assume the position of home missionary and Sabbath school leader for the Atlantic Union conference. Following a potluck supper of sandwiches, cookies, and hot chocolate, the evening's entertainment consisted of a variety musical program by church members, and a "T r 1 h or Consequences" game. Paul Beddoes was master of ceremonies for the event, and presented the Weissea with two pieces of silver holloware. Congregational Sermon Subject Listed for Sunday "Living With Your Worst Self" is the subject of the ser mon which the Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the Con gregational church, Medford will preach at the service of the church at 11 a.m. on Sun day. The service will be held in the auditorium on Hoover Grade school on Siskiyou blvd., which is the temporary meeting place until a new sanctuary and educational unit can be built later this year at the corner of East Jackson st. and Berkeley Way. First Baptists Announce Events When the NaturaV Man Meets His Doom" is the mes sage to be brought Sunday at the First Baptist church by the pastor, the Rev. Bernard E. Andrews. The service is held at 11 a.m. at the Wilson school, Grand and Corona aves. The chapel choir will sing for the service and May nard Hadley will be soloist. The message for the 7 p.m. service will be "The Day a Deacon Died." Miss Kathy Hill will sing and there will be an instrumental duet by Miss Donalyn Minear and Miss Elizabeth Paeth. . Sunday school is conducted at 9:40 a.m. and the Bible is the text book for every class. The school is completely grad ed and departmentalized for each age with more than 50 teachers and officers em ployed each Sunday. Crusade to Close At 1st Nazarene Tonight's service at 7:30 o'clock and the Sunday serv ices, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., will conclude the evangelistic cam paign that has been going on at First Church of the Nazar ene, 520 North Holly st. The Rev. C. William Fisher, Kansas City, Mo., has been guest preacher for these meet ings. He is also a musician and presents a varied program of vocal and instrumental music in each service. Minister of education and music for the local church, Perry Christiansen, has stated that tonight has been desig nated as Sunday School night and all the children's depart ments with their leaders will be recognized. The primary and junior choirs will sing under the direction of Mrs. Christiansen. The Rev. Harold M. Sanner, pastor of the local church, who recently returned from a journey to two mission sta tions of the denomination at Trinidad, West Indies, and the Republic of Panama, will tell of a typical Sunday school in those areas to the adult de partment of the Sunday school Sunday at 9:45 a.m. During the 6 p.m. youth hour, he will describe the Youth camp in Trinidad where he served as chaplain. Wayne Larson, president nf the church's young people's society has announced that the Junior High, Senior High, and Young Adult Fellowships will combine for this service. Mental Health To Be Tuesday Topic Mrs. Phyllis Presenti. who active in the Jackson County Mental Health associa tion, will speak at the month ly meeting of the Medford Ministerial association Tues day at the Medford Friends church.
