The injured were Fin nell's wife, Margaret, 35, and Everett L. Rogers, SO. They were taken to Ontario Hos pital with undetermined In juries but were not believed to be critically hurt. State Police said all four were thrown from the car. might be entertaining soon They arc practically guar anteed to start your guests moving toward the door. Let us begin with Mrs. Kennedy's delicate condition. . . ' Radio-television comments' tor Joseph McCaffrey views the current air of expectancy at the White House as a poll, tical omen. "The President," says Mc Caffrey, "Is prepared tu carry the art of baby-kissing to the ultimate degree of perfection. He is even supplying the babies." Exit the first wave of guests. Hares Vs. Hounds Sen. George D. Aiken (R Vt.) also detects political overtones in the fact that three Kennedy wives are anti pleating. He suggests that the next campaign may shape up along the lines of the classic race between the hares and the hounds. At some point one hare turns to another and says, "Shall we run some more or slop and outnumber them?" ... Exit second wave. Now let us switch to Congress. ', As everyone knows, the House of Rcprotentatives Is spending upwards of $100 million on a fancy new office building for Its members. Bob Loftus, a local public relations man, recommends that it be called the "Tax Mahal." A Loftus gag will break up a party faster than anything I know of, except maybe an air raid. No Tirna io Dawdla Next we have a congres sional gag by Oscar Johnson of the Capitol Hill weekly roll call. It concerns charges that Congress has been daw dling this year. According to Johnson, the charges are baseless. He con tends that our lawgivers have not had a chance yet "for any really serious dawdling be cause of all the recesses." - If there are any guests still hanging on after all of this, you- can tell them comedian Mark Russell's gag about the outbreak of street crimes in the capital.' "I didn't know we were having a crime wave," Rus sell says. "I thought it was like this all the time." As a last resort, if one guest still hasn't gone and he hap pens to be a politician, tell him this: "You know what scientists produced by crossing a poli tician with a gorilla? A re tarded gorilla." Choosing Job Will Concern Graduates At OSU This Year Corvallls - Choosing - not finding - a Job will be . the concern of the June graduate this year, Oregon State uni versity placement officers re port. - ' Starting salaries are up a..i the well-trained graduate was never in greater demand, a Four Men Missing On Private Plane Seattle -Wit- Search was on today for a private plane with four men aboard missing since early Wednesday on a flight from Portland to Seattle. More companies came to the campus this year to interview graduates than ever before. For example, the average OSU engineering senior has taken approximately eight job interviews this year. The de mand is increasing for gradu ates with advanced degrees. The school-by-school outlook for June graduates from OSU Is as follows: , Engineering! Trcmcn d o u s need exists for more engi neers. Prospective employers being "turned away" this year because there aren't enough graduates to go around. There are three or four times as many good jobs open as graduates. ' Starting salary for this year's engineering graduate will be about $588, compared to $572 a year ago. Master's degree graduates will start at about $645 and doctor's de gree graduates at $875 up. Starting pay has increased 70 per cent in the last 10 years. Educationi Well trained teachers are in big demand and will be for year? with rapidly increasing school en rollments. Starting salaries for elementary and high school teachers range from S4,4uu io so.buu witn tne av erage about 84,800 - S4.8U0. OSU placement office had more calls for teachers this year than, ever before. Inter viewers are "choosy," never theless. Shortage fields in high school teaching Include physi cal science, mathematics, Eng lish (particularly for women teachers), library, girls physi cal education. Sciences Mathemat i c i a n s are 'in greatest demand with physicists and chemists cloe behind. But opportuni ties in. other science fields -botany, zoology, entomology. oceanography, microbiology - are rated "very good." De mand for geologists is way up compared to three years ago. For a bachelor's degree. starting pay will run from $S00-$S75; for a master's $73 to $100 a month more: for a doctor's degree, anywhere up to $1,000 or more a month. Agricultural Well-qualified agriculture graduates will have no trouble finding a good job again this year. Starting pay will range from $4,800 to $6,000. Opportunities are par ticularly good in sales of ag ricultural products, food pro-, cessing, and federal research and marketing work. Demand for graduates stays strong. Home Economics: Plenty of positions are available in busi ness, teaching and extension work for well-prepared be ginning home economists - If they are willing to go where the positions are. Starting pay ranges from $4,800 to $6,000. Demand is up for women in retail merchandising. Recruit ers are looking for top stu dents to go into their execu tive training programs. Business and Technology: Accounting majors are still in highest demand; strong need too for sales personnel. Top personnel and production graduates are picked off for administrative trainee posi tions. Starting salary: $400 to $600 with the average $479 and a monthly increase of $10 to $15 over last year. Some 10 per cent more recruiters came earlier to make job offers. - ; . It Isn't unusual for a secre tarial science major to av erage $375. Industry is "talk ing" more to the secretarial science graduate about the possibility of advancing into office management positions. Business education grads ben efit from the advancing teach er salaries. Humanities and Social Sci ences: Opportunities available in a wide range of state and federal jobs involving "work with people." Many have been placed in social work, foreign relations and on-the-job in ternships in teaching at three- i quarters pay. Starting from I $4,500 to $5,500. Graduate ; work attracts a considerable; number of humanities and so-1 cial sciences bachelor's de-1 grce holders. Forestry: More Jobs open than men to fill them despite the depressed lumber market. Average starting salary is ' about $5,200. More graduates will go Into public forest agency Jobs this year than a year ago. Outlook in private industry is brightening some. Pharmacy! Oppcrtun 1 1 1 e s ' for employment appear about , equal to the number of gradu-. ates this year. Starting pay. depending upon experience and location, ranges from $:150 to $650 a month with $500 average. There are more openings for hospital pharma- cisls, wholesale pharmacists, ' and manufacturers rcprcsen I tatives than there are students choosing these positions. Op portunities in graduate school are being by-passed because of financial attraction to go to work rather than (o on for ad vanced training. i. .in. i . i .--. ....
