On the seventeenth hole, he sliced his drive clean out of bounds, and growled fiercely at the caddie, "That was on account of you and your hic coughs." "But I didn't hiccough then, sir," pro tested the caddie. "That's just the point," scream ed the player. "I had ALLOWED for it!" Senator Borah of Idaho mailed out more letters to constituents than any of his colleagues and the bulk of tjicni went to his bitterest politi cal enemies. "No point In sending copies of my speeches to ' friends who already agree with me," Borah explained. "My ene mies, however, read every word I say looking for mistakes." "I'm a man of few words," thundered a pompous congressman tn the House one day. "Could be," chuckled a congressman across the aisle, "but you're keeping them mighty busy." C IMS. by Bennett cert. Hart, sponsor of the "Irulh In packaging" bill now before Congress and whose home state produces 80 per cent of the nation's cherry crop, was indignant. "I am going lo ask I h c Food and Drug Administra tion lo set some standard on how many cherries a pic should contain," he said. Hart said a 10-inch pic from the Senate cafeteria contain ed 1G3 cherries, lie figured that nn this basis, an flight Inch pic baked in the Senate kitchen "would contain about 108 cherries, compared lo the 40 lonely cherries in the fro zen model."
