That is to main tain a record of your income and outgo. Such a record can be simple and brief, but it may save you tax dollars and many hours of work. The average man who works for a salary thinks he doesn't have to concern him self about keeping books and records. But he should. Whether or not you run a business of your own, you have a partner who each year is claiming a substantial in terest in your personal in come. The law requires that you keep books for him in case he ever aiks for an ac counting. Perhaps you own your home or are paying for it In install ments. It's likely that some day you may sell that house. When you do you'll want to be able to prove whether you realized a gain or a loss on that sale. If a gain resulted, li will probably add to your income tax. If a loss was suf fered, well, that's another thing. You may have made cer tain improvements on the house, while you lived in it, but unless you can show what out-of-pocket expense you in curred while making them, you may not get credit for them in your cost basis. It may be that you are re ceiving an annuity on an, In surance policy. If so, do you know how much that policy costs you and how much of that cost you have recovered tax-free to date? There are many kinds of transactions you enter into that may some day affect the computation of your personal income tax. The best proof of the cost of anything you've purchased is a receipted bill or cancelled check. If one of these pieces of evidence re lates to any transaction that may affect your income in later years, it li a good idea to keep it. lEQAt NOTICIS No. 10323 NOTICE Or HEARING ON FINAL ACCOUNT XN THE CIRCUIT COURT OK THE STATE OF OREGON TOR JACK SON COUNTY PROBATE DE PARTMENT In the matter of the Estate or CORA MOORE, deceased.
