Oraca Col- ban, Art Exhibits Planned For Annual Tea Eighteenth century bronze works of art, copper hand craft, modern sculptures and wood carvings, old miniature icons, modern paintings from Medford and the West Coast and old paintings from Ger many, theater and concert posters, programs, photo graphs and scrapbooks will be a part of the potpourri of art objects collected to interest guests at the coming annual cancer tea. It will be held at Hillcrest house on Wednes day, April 17. The theme of the tea this year Is "The World of Art". Mrs. Nell Davidson will dls nlav her collection of bronze figures dating from the early 18th century. These works of 1 art were made ty irencn, German and Italian arUata. The smaller nieces are suit able for display In the home. but the larger figures are shown to best advantage In a garden setting. Mrs. David son will also exhibit a mod ern German bronze figure for contrast. Mrs. Eric W. Allen Jr., will loan some of her modern sculptures, and William Fon taine will display his wood carvings. Alexander Dlepenbrock will exhibit several miniature icons which are very old. He will design the setting for the icons, and for an old Ger man painting, which will be shown by the courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Anton Prack. The painting was in the col lection of the Boisscrce bro thers in the Rhineland in the early 19lh century, but it has been In the possession ot Mrs. Prack's family for genera tions. 11 depicts famous his torical personages of the 10th century, and Is known to be very old. Other Collections Other private collections will he shown, in addition to paintings exhibited by the Rogue Valley Art association, the Southern Oregon Society of Artists, and the Senior Cit izens, who will also display handcraft. Flower arrangements will be entered in the annual non test, which is decided by pop ular vote. Valley clubs and organizations are cooperating with the contest, and entries are still being accepted. Flowers to decorate tnc rooms of Hillcrest house are being donated by Mrs. Wil liam Clark, Mrs. John Hol mer, Mrs. L. G. Gcntner and Mrs. Hanley Heffernan. Mrs. Dorothy Ginn will ar range the centerpiece for (he (ratable, which will be decor ated in gold and white. Tea refreshments are provided each year by Mrs. Ida Whar ton and by members of the Hillcrest tea committee, who sponsor the annual sliver tea for the benefit of the Amer -lean Cancer society. The public is invited to at tend the tea, which will be held from 2 to 4:30 in the at tcrnoon on Wednesday, April 17, at Hillcrest house in Hill crest Orchards. The oc casion was in observance of the membership of Mrs. L. F. Pickett, 208 Portland avenue, for 60 years in PEO, and that of 50 years for Mrs. Grace Collins and Mrs. Mamie Sleet- er, both nogue vaney uwi residents. Mrs. Pickett was one of the founders of Chapter AA in 1922. Mrs. Robert Dames pre sented the honored guests with corsages and special guard pins. White marguerites were featured in the floral center piece for the tea table and were flanked by yellow can dles in silver candelabra. loaned by Mrs. E. J. DeVoe for the occasion. Arrange ments of yellow daffodils dec orated the rooms. Pouring during the tea were Mrs. John Moffat, Mrs Charles Lcmery, Mrs. Marjor- ic Olds and Mrs. E. B. De Voe. Two state officers. Mrs. E. L. Bartholomew, Medford. president, and Mrs. Fletcher Fish. Phoenix, second vice- president, were special guests Members of other local chap tcrs were also in attendance. Mrs. Robert Cunningham ed president of Chapter AA and has the dictinclion of be ing a third generation PEO. Her mother, the late Mrs. Harold Brown and grand mother, the late Mrs. Dell Welch, were both members of Chapter AA. Three chapters are to meet this week. Chapter CP members will meet in the home of Mrs. Ed mund L. Simmons, 2210 Cap ital avenue, Wednesday, April 17, at 12:30 for luncheon. Birthday Party Honors Woman Applcgate Valley - Mrs. Ralph Smith, Upper Apple gate, was honored guest at a birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Eek last Saturday evening. About 30 guests attended the dancing party. Music was furnished by Ihc Birkland trio of Medford, consisting of Wayne Birkland, Thomas Cornwall, and Dale Keafea ver. A number of friends and relatives attended from Med ford. Supper was served at midnight. Mrs. R. E. Mencke will assist the hosiess- Chapter C. P. members will hear a program by Mrs. Theo dore Barss entitlted "Rubies From the Record." Presidents of other chapters will be guests and the chapter will meet in the home of Mrs. Jack Sanborn, 2180 Capital ave nue, Wednesday, April 17, at 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Ray McNair and Mrs. V. I. Whitney will assist. Chapter BE will meet Tues day, April 18. at Rogue Valley Manor wilth Miss Myrtle Doty as hostess. Service Guild Unit To Meet on Monday Ruth Esther unit, Wesleyan Service guild, will meet Mon day, April 15. at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Methodist church. Mrs. George Watson will present a program on "A Sign Unto You." A business meeting will be held in the Library room with Miss Carol Denny presiding. Plans for a rummage sale will be made. Hostesses for the evening will be Miss Denny, Mrs. Louise Davis and Mrs. Made line Frazier. The Rev. William Walsh per formed the double ring cere mony In the presence of about 60 relatives and friends. The bride Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Faren hurst, 228 Harrison street. Ashland, and the bridegroom's parents axe Mr. and Mrs. Emil Christensen, Cave Junction. The bride, escorted to the altar by Dan Dollarhlde, Cres cent City, Calif., friend of the bride and bridegroom, wore a ballerina length gown with three-quarter length sleeves, lace bodice, and a full, silk organza over tatfcla sKiri. Her shoulder length veil was held by a crown of seed pearls and she carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds. Mrs. Dollarhlde was matron of honor. Miss Jonicta Smilh, Cottage Grove, was brides maid and Mrs Gary lyicr, Ashland, was bridcsmalron. The matron of honor wore a pale pink chiffon ballerina length dress with n matching head piece. The other two at tendants wore white sheath dresses with coral nylon over- skirts and matching head pieces. Ail three carried bou quets of white carnations. Frank Testerman, Medford, was best man and Ellis Wil son, Ashland, and Jerry Spen cer, Medford, were ushers. Following the ceremony, a reception was given at the church by the Altar society. Miss Joan Byrd cut the cake and Mrs. Laura Fctt presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Bruce Schwcizcr poured the coffee and Miss Christine Fett war. in charge of the guest book. Miss Margaret Bolz and Miss Joyce Hunter, both Wioenix, took charge of Ihe gifts. The couple will reside nt 334 Garfield street, Ashland, following a wedding trip to Portland. For traveling the bride wore a black sheath dress With a black and white checked three-quarter length coat with black accessories. The bride- graduated in IflBil from Ashland High school and is a junior majoring in ele mentary education at South ern Oregon college. Mr. Chris tensen has also attended SOC and is presently employed at Rogue Valley Memorial hos pital in Medford. Newly wed Pair Lives In Medford Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Wil son arc living in Medford fol lowing their recent marriage in Berkeley, Calif. The bride the former Miss Phyllis Vinnard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Vinnard, Milton Freewater, Ore., and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Wilson, 734 West Fourteenth street, Medford. The couple made their wed ding trip along the California coast. The ceremony was read March 30 in the chapel of the Berkeley United Presbyterian church. The Rev. Bruce E. Ferry performed the rites at tended by the parents of the bridegroom and other rela tives of the couple. Mrs. Irving Kurtz, Placcr ville, Calif., was matron of honor tor her sister. Richard Dopkins, Berkeley, a cousin of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr. Kurtz, the bride's brother-in-law, gave her in marriage. For her wedding the bride chose a light blue linen suit with white and green accesso ries. Her corsage was a white orchid. Mrs. Kurtz wore a light green suit with white accesso ries and corsage was a cym bidium orchid. The bridal group and guests were served a wedding dinner In the Sea Wolf restaurant in Jack London square, Oakland. Other guests from Medford were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Strang, aunt and uncle of the bridegroom. The couple is living on Portland avenue. The bridegroom, who has lived In Medford his entire life, has attended Southern Oregon college, lie is employ ed by the Electric Supply Company. Inc . as a salesman. The bride was graduated from the Walla Wall college school of nursing and is em ployed as a registered nurse at Medford clinic.
