HaUstu, Triumph in the University of Oregon event brought the Chiefs their first track and field mantle of statewide stat ure. As it did in the Little Rogue relays a week ago. Rogue River snapped the, four-year domination of St. Mary's of Medford. Rogue River with 58 13 Mints more than doubled the ! total of us nearest rival. Mapleton took second with 24 and St. Mary's third with 21. Central Linn successfully defended its Class B crown. The Cobras, clinching the title in the final event, the sprint medley, ran up 34VS counters. St. Francis, which did not place in the final event, was second with 25. Reedsport scored 23Vsa Salyer Stars Don Salyer was first in two , events and second in another for Coach Frank Morris' RR Chieftains who captured firsts, also, in all four run ning events for a total of six medals. Salyer tied the pole vault record of 11 feet 6 in ches. He won the high hurdles in 15.5 and was second in the high jump with a leap of 3-8. The crew of Craig Phillips, Jim Fabrick, Alan Gales and Chris Jones won both the 440 yard relay and the sprint medley for the Chieftains. Bob Pentecost learned with Ron Halicka, Jack Salter and Ron Waite to win the distance medley and Gust Schefstrom and Jim LeRoy combined with Pentecost and Salter to nab the two-mile. Larry Craig was second in the shot put for Rogue River with 42-11V6 while Arden Liles tied for fifth in the pole vault at 10-6. Two S.M. Seconds St. Mary's was second to Rogue River in the 440 relay and sprint medley and took third in the two-mile and fourth in the distance med ley. Jim Calhoun took fifth in the javelin for St. Mary's at 144-5 and Tim Sakraida lied for fourth in the high jump at 5-3. Ron Thornhill was third for Illinois Valley at 115-1 in the discus and IV gained a fifth in the 440 relay.
