North GP Beats Mac In Track North Grants Pass Junior high, winning 11 clear firsts, defeated McLoughlin of Med ford 78 to 44 In a ninth grade track meet yesterday. Dick Howley won the low hurdles for Mac and Roger Johnson the 150-yard dash. McLoughlin's Otto Ryn tied for first in the 660 with North's S. Wenderkind who also won the 1320. Double winners for North included E. Mendenhall in the high hurdles and pole vault, C. Williams in the 75 and broad jump and R. Ser geant in the shot put and discus. John Nuich was low gross in ball sweepstakes last week end. Lindquist took low net prize with a 74. Southern Oregon confer ence baseball season will con tinue Saturday with a pair of doublebills if the weather cooperates, of course. Medford will play at Ash land; Klamath Falls will face Crater at Central Point. First gmes will be at 1 p.m. The Comet-KF Pel bill is a change from the original schedule. It was formerly set for Klamath Falls but was switched because Oregon Tech has afternoon use of Gems stadium. Otherwise, the high schools would have had to play at night. Game times also are a half-hour earlier than originally scheduled. Junior varsity scrapes also with Ashland at Medford and are planned for Saturday Crater at Klamath Falls. Enyari, Sandir Named Medford varsity (4-0) will seek to extend its leadership while Klamath (2-01 also will aim to keep its league record unmarred. Crater (3-3) and Ashland (1-3) will fight to get back into tile circuit running. Bill Enyart and Larry San der may get the starting pitcher calls from Coach John Kovenz for Medford. Kovenz said that Enyart has thrown real well in drill. Whether Sander pitches, or how far he goes may depend on a blister on his heel. John Rhodes and Bill Tilford may get the hill summons for Coach Bill Ley bold's Ashlanders. The Medford squad is still experiencing sore arm trouble with cold weather apparently making the soreness hang on Outfielder Gary Miller suf fered a leg bruise against Grants Pass last Saturday but played against Crater this week. Pitcher Slu Young has a slight hand sprain but twirled a win over the Comets. Pepper's Foot Responding Coach Bill Piche of Crater said that Larry Pepper is to start the first game on the mound and Wayne Clay the second against Klamath Falls. For Klamath Coach Bill Mansfield may use Rich Jack son and Gary Benson. Pepper was hit on the foot last Tuesday by a smash by Medford's Dick Deffley. But the foot has been responding to treatment and Piche hopes to start him. "I hope we start scoring some runs," Piche remarked. "We've been blanked in the last three games and in the last 21 innings with only two hits in the last two games. I hope the kids realize the con ference has started and start to play up to their potential pretty soon," he added. Only Medford and Grans Pass have been active this week. Weather prevented a Grants Pass-Klamath Falls doubleheader. K ,! OSU Track Team Runs Corvallis - lUPP - Oregon State's track forces make their first home appearance Saturday in a three-way meet with Lewis and Clark and Portland State. The team competition does not figure to be close, so Bea ver coach Sam Bell has sweet ened the attraction by match ing his two top middle dis tance men, Norm Hoffman and Morgan Groth, in the mile. Hoffman currently has the nation's best college half-mile time, 1:49.5. Groth ranks fourth among college milers with a 4:04.7. Steve Pauly, aiming for the Olympic decathlon in 1964, will enter five events, t h e Tornado JV Victor Over Crater Nine Medford high won from Crater 7 to 5 yesterday at Cen tral Point in a junior varsity baseball fray. The Junior Tornado had 11 hit atlaek with Larry Godley socking a homer and single and Rick Hassman, Dick Botl jer and Jim Cox each getting two hits, including two-bascrs. Dana Thurman doubled. For Crater Bob Stroh sin gled and doubled. Gary Nel son hit a triple and Mike An horn a double. Mark Kinney gave up two hits, walked three and fanned three in three innings of pitch ing for Medford. Gary Froh reich went the last six frames, allowing two more hits, fan ning 11!, walking nine and hitting one batter. Crater tosscr John Bush whiffed six, walked six and hit one. Lakers Nab Cage Series Los Angeles -(UPH- Coaches Fred Schaus of the Los An geles Lakers and Harry Gal latin of the St. Louis Hawks agreed Thursday night the fans make the difference. The Lakers downed the Hawks handily Thursday night in the Angeles Sports Arena 115-100 before a par tisan crowd of 14,864 and earned the right to battle the Boston Clctics for the sec j ond straight year for the Na- j tional Basketball association crown. The Lakers won the West- era Division title 4-3 over St. Louis by taking all their home games. St. Louis was j equally as tough at home. winning those games. Elgin Baylor sparkled again for the Lakers, scoring 35 points. He was aided by 27 from Jerry West, 18 from Dick Barnett and 15 from Rudy Larusso.
