Southern Oregon confer
ence baseball season will con
tinue Saturday with a pair of
doublebills if the weather
cooperates, of course.
Medford will play at Ash
land; Klamath Falls will face
Crater at Central Point. First
gmes will be at 1 p.m.
The Comet-KF Pel bill is
a change from the original
schedule. It was formerly set
for Klamath Falls but was
switched because Oregon
Tech has afternoon use of
Gems stadium. Otherwise, the
high schools would have had
to play at night. Game times
also are a half-hour earlier
than originally scheduled.
Junior varsity scrapes also
with Ashland at Medford and
are planned for Saturday
Crater at Klamath Falls.
Enyari, Sandir Named
Medford varsity (4-0) will
seek to extend its leadership
while Klamath (2-01 also will
aim to keep its league record
unmarred. Crater (3-3) and
Ashland (1-3) will fight to get
back into tile circuit running.
Bill Enyart and Larry San
der may get the starting
pitcher calls from Coach John
Kovenz for Medford. Kovenz
said that Enyart has thrown
real well in drill. Whether
Sander pitches, or how far he
goes may depend on a blister
on his heel. John Rhodes and
Bill Tilford may get the hill
summons for Coach Bill Ley
bold's Ashlanders.
The Medford squad is still
experiencing sore arm trouble
with cold weather apparently
making the soreness hang on
Outfielder Gary Miller suf
fered a leg bruise against
Grants Pass last Saturday but
played against Crater this
week. Pitcher Slu Young has
a slight hand sprain but
twirled a win over the
Comets.
Pepper's Foot Responding
Coach Bill Piche of Crater
said that Larry Pepper is to
start the first game on the
mound and Wayne Clay the
second against Klamath Falls.
For Klamath Coach Bill
Mansfield may use Rich Jack
son and Gary Benson.
Pepper was hit on the foot
last Tuesday by a smash by
Medford's Dick Deffley. But
the foot has been responding
to treatment and Piche hopes
to start him.
"I hope we start scoring
some runs," Piche remarked.
"We've been blanked in the
last three games and in the
last 21 innings with only two
hits in the last two games. I
hope the kids realize the con
ference has started and start
to play up to their potential
pretty soon," he added.
Only Medford and Grans
Pass have been active this
week. Weather prevented a
Grants Pass-Klamath Falls
doubleheader.
