Medford, were married March 13, 1913 in Frateburgh, Scot land, and have lived since 1922 in Medford, A bullet din ner observed their fiftieth wedding anniverary during a family gathering at their home. The honored couple hag lived in Medford since 1922. A buffet dinner was served from a table decorated in a golden harvest theme. A gold en money tree and candles formed the centerpiece. Attending from Portland were two daughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy T. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young. Grandchildren Officers To Be Installed Phoenix - Mrs. William Knips was elected president of Gamma Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at a meeting recently at the home of Mrs. Harold Slopcr. Others elected were Mrs. Richard White, vice president; Mrs. David Taylor, recording secretary; Mrs. Darrel Hughes, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Krank Tcsterman, treasurer; from Portland w ?re Mr. and Mrs. Albert Henderson and their four children, Marge, Gary Danny and Steven, who j are great grandchildren of the i honored couple; and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gaittens and their five children, Janet, Frankie, Jill, Freddie and Farlie. also great grandchil dren of the Barbers. A third daughter and her husband. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. FitzGerald and children, Sheila and Bruce, were here 1 from Antioch, Calif. Attending from Medford i were the couple's son and his i wife, Mr. and Mrs. George : Barber. Another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Barber were there from Central Point. Rogue River, recently ob served their sixtieth wedding anniversary during an open house. During the day a telephone call was received from two of Mrs. Bowen's sisters and a niece in Iowa, who had attended the rites sixty years ago. District 4. Mrs. Lcroy Tompkins showed slides of her hobby, birds, for the evening's cultur al program. The chapter gave a surprise party for members of the Phoenix judo club recently. The members gave a demon stration of the art of quarter staffing during the chapter's tyle and variety show March 30 at the Phoenix Community lub. The show was the first ma jor project of tne cnapter since it was organized. It fea tured styles from the Town nd Country shop with Mrs. Doreen Vaughan, co-owner, as narrator. Other entertainment during the show included students from the Colleen Hope studio nd the Hungry Five. The style show, "Pagoda Parade," also included a mock style show by husbands of the members. Returns Home Prospect - Mrs. Olive Her- vey recently spent two weeks visiting her children, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hervey and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Taylor, all of Talent. Mrs. Hervey for merly lived in Talent. Mrs. Chapman Hoitejj For Bridge Club Prospect - Mrs. Sharoid Chapman was hostess for the Prospect Bridge club at its meeting April 2. Eight play ers attended. Mrs. Jack De- Roster was high scorer and Mrs. Jack Rienks was low. The next event will be April 16 at the home of Mrs. Victor Chapman. Past Matrons Jacksonville - Mrs. Harris Olson, 515 King street, Med ford, will be hostess to Adarel Past Matrons club women Monday, April 8 when a 12:30 p.m. luncheon will be scrvea. Mrs. William E. Caullcr win be cohostess. and her corsage was an or chid. Mr. Barber came to Oregon from Scotland in 1921 after serving with the Scotch Gor don Highlander regiment in World War . He located a home at Enterprise, Ore., for Mrs. Barber and three of the children and they arrived that year to join him. The family then moved in 1922 to Medford. Chapters Name New Officers Ashland - Chapters Gam ma Zcta and Xi Alpha of Beta Sigma Phi sorority elected of ficers at their last meetings. Chosen president of Gamma Zeta was Mrs. Gene Litwillcr. Xi Alpha chapter will be head ed by Mrs. Sam Davis. On the board with Mrs. Lit willer arc Mrs. Keith Garrett, vice president; Mrs. Bonnie Rcttew. recording secretary; Mrs. Duane Baker, corres ponding secretary; Mrs. Rob ert DeGroot, treasurer; Mrs. James Conklin, city council representative, and Mrs. Earl Kirby, council alternate. Their business meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Allen Rett-man. In addition to Mrs. Davis other officers of Xi Alpha chapter are Mrs. Walter Tay lor, vice president; Mrs. uien don Jefferies. secretary; Mrs. Neil Richardson, treasurer, and Mrs. Monte Hall, city council representative. The chapter met at the home of Mrs. Davis. 4 JCRTA Luncheon Is Announced A no-host luncheon is plan ned by members of the Jack son County Retired Teachers association Monday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m., in the Bellview Grange building, Ashland. Mrs. Bertha Baughman is In charge of the luncheon and Mrs. Alice Willits, program chairman is arranging for a speaker. Musical selections also will be heard. Neighbors of W o o d c r a ft lodges from Ashland, Phoe nix, Grants Pass and Medford will convene Monday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m., in the Eagles hall, 217 West Main street, Medford. A potluck dinner will be served and a business meet ing and practice of officers and guards will be conducted during the evening. Mrs. John Dodge and Mrs. Sadie De La Mater are in charge. Vacation Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Dom Provost, 99 Union street, returned last week from their winter vacation in Hawaii. Science Fair, Art Exhibit Scheduled A science fair will be held and art drawings exhibited in the gymnasium at Washington school Thursday, April 11, when the Parent Teacher asso ciation holds its pancake din ncr. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will be added to the fund to purchase the school a pro jector. Visits Hornbrook Couple Hornbrook Guests on Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Protsman were Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Mushaney and daughters Karen and Linda, from Central Point, Ore. 60th Anniversary Observed by Couple Rogue River -About 60 friends and relatives called on Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Bow en during a recent open house which observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Hosts were their son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bowen, Pleasant Creek, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Largent, San Bernardino, Calif. Grandsons of the couple, Fred Bowen. Gold Beach, and Earl Bowen, Oregon State university student, also were present. The home was decorated with spring flowers and con gratulatory cards received by the couple mounted on green and gold streamers. The wedding cake served for refreshments had been made by a friend of the cou ple. During the day a telephone call was received from Iowa, from two of Mrs. Bowen's sis ters and a niece, who had been present at the wedding sixty years ago. Ray L. Bowen and Mary A. Whillis were married March 19, 1903 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they lived for three years and engaged in farming. After living a short time in South Dakota the couple with others from that vicinity moved to Wyoming where all acquired homestead property. Later the Bowens moved to Pasadena, Calif., where Mr. Bowen operated a plumbing shop. In 1935 they moved to southern Oregon and returned to farming until they retired in 1953 when they moved into the home in which they now live. Robert Cummin Family Hat Guests Hornbrook Visiting last week end at the Robert Cum mins home were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dietrichs of Montague. The two couples recently made a trip to St. Helena, Calif, where they visited the Seventh-day Adventist col lege and Sanitarium, and also called on Pastor and Mrs. B. J.
