Thursday afternoon, the budget committee approved the Jackson county parks and recreation budget at $103,834, a $436 decrease over the cur rent budget. It transferred $18,930 to the road depart ment for development and maintenance of park roads. Eliminate Planner The committee eliminated a county planner, cut the ve hicle equipment fund from $5,000 to $2,000, allowing for one pickup instead of two; cut the building improve ment fund from $11,500 to $5,000, reduced grounds maintenance from $6,000 to $5,000, and cut technical equipment from $5,174 to $1,000. The committee boosted the land acquisition fund from $2,000 to $8,000. The print shop budget to tal was approved at $iz,hhu, down $6,820 from the current year. Main reason for the overall reduction was that less equipment and fewer supplies are needed this year. Budget Approved Purchasing depart ment budget was aproved at $10, 064, down $523 from the cur rent year with fewer supplies needed for the new fiscal year. The general fund section of the dog control budget was approved at $9,446, the same as the current year, to cover operating expenses. The allo cation of $12,000 for gas, oil and equipment repairs was transferred to the road de partment. The committee allowed $1,500 Instead of the requests ed $2,900 for travel expenses, $2,000 for a new pickup truck and $1,146 for two new mo bile radio units ing and equipment. These three items are $78,000 down from the current year's allo cation, chiefly since consider able bridge work was done this year. The inter-departmental al location is $30,105. ' slightly up from the current $20,305. This section covers gas, oil and repairs for other depart ments, but administered by the county road department and work on county parks and recreation area roads. Highway Routes Show Increased Major highway routes in Jackson and Josephine coun ties had substantial increases in traffic during February, 1063, compared to February. 1962, according to the state highway department. This increase was noted throughout the state. The greatest increase was noted on Highway 66 seven miles cast of Ashland, where travel was up 23,2 per cent This was a 32 per cent in crease for the first two months this year. Highway 09 travel two miles south of Talent was up 6.2 per cent over the same month a year ago, and 11.4 per cent for the first two months. Highway 62 four miles south of Shady Cove showed a traffic increase of 4.3 per cent, and Highway 238, one miles west of Ruch had an in crease of 3 per cent. Highways in Josephine county showed increased traf fic on Grave creek rd., seven miles north of Grants Pass up 6.4 per cent and Highway 199, one mile north of the Oregon-California statelinc .8 per cent.
