I Tax Benefit Bill Goes to White House Washington - HOT - The Senate passed and sent to the White House Tuesday a bill extending tax benefits for child care to women deserted by their husbands. The measure, passed by voice vote, permits such wom en to deduct up to $600 a year for a dependent child, putting them on a par with widows who have children. Sammons, who succeeds Hon ry S. Howard who resianed, will serve on the commission for a term ending Jan 1067. POOR MAN'S 00 Simply Call PHI I J? Salem-OIPD-The Senate Ed ucation committee voted 6-1 Tuesday to approve a bill which would establish a state educational radio and televi sion council. The council, which would be composed of members of both the Board of Education and Board of Higher Educa tion, would establish a policy for state educational stations. Educational television and radio stations now are oper ated by the Board of Higher Education. The system now operates KOAC and KOAC TV in Portland. Each board would supply three members to the propos ed council. A seventh member not a member of cither board would be named by the governor. Sen. Walter Leth (R-Salem) voted against the bill because he said there was sufficient cooperation between the boards now. APPROVED BILLS Salem-WrP-The House Aarl culture committee Tuesday approved bills clarifying elec tion procedures in the Oregon Beef Council and raising to $300 the maximum fine for malpractice of veterinary medicine. Songs Will Be Sung On Academy Awards Hollywood - (UPI1 - A so note struck by songwriters was resolved Wednesday when producers agreed to have songs nominated for this year's Oscar sung at the Acad emy Awards show. Original plans did not in clude vocal renditions of the nominated songs, but a host of Hollywood songwriters sent a telegram to the show's producer, Arthur Freed, pro testing the decision.
