Salem-OIPD-The Senate Ed
ucation committee voted 6-1
Tuesday to approve a bill
which would establish a state
educational radio and televi
sion council.
The council, which would
be composed of members of
both the Board of Education
and Board of Higher Educa
tion, would establish a policy
for state educational stations.
Educational television and
radio stations now are oper
ated by the Board of Higher
Education. The system now
operates KOAC and KOAC
TV in Portland.
Each board would supply
three members to the propos
ed council. A seventh member
not a member of cither
board would be named by
the governor.
Sen. Walter Leth (R-Salem)
voted against the bill because
he said there was sufficient
cooperation between the
boards now.

Songs Will Be Sung
On Academy Awards
Hollywood - (UPI1 - A so
note struck by songwriters
was resolved Wednesday
when producers agreed to
have songs nominated for this
year's Oscar sung at the Acad
emy Awards show.
Original plans did not in
clude vocal renditions of the
nominated songs, but a host
of Hollywood songwriters
sent a telegram to the show's
producer, Arthur Freed, pro
testing the decision.
