The nautical look, trans lated into new designs in the seaman's traditional navy blue denim, is evident in pants, shorts, tops and bath ing suits. Pants and shorts designs are influenced by blue Jeans, a favorite boating garment. Wit ness traditional jeans of knee- skimming length as well as other short blue jeans, some with pink-edged pants legs for the real cut-off" look. Bell bottoms emerge in full swing in the form of authen tic blue denim sailor's pants with back-lace ties and front panel buttons. Detailed The midriff middy, a shirt that ties in a square knot at the front, and the V-neck pull- over middy In the rugged blue fabric are detailed with red or white stitching. Serving a dual purpose of fashion and function are denim sailing parkas and jackets. The blue jeans look in bath ing suits and beach dresses takes on accents in calico and gingham. Navy denim hip slung shorts, piped in bright calico, are coordinated with matching calico tops. Con trasting print trims are seen on denim shifts and tent-dress- cs. favorite outfits. Or, if the budget's a bit tight, select one extra-special set of these fancy new underthings to wear under your new spring outfit. Muted Colors The more conservative woman might prefer a set of the new coordinated "wear wit h - everything" lingerie These underthings are in more muted colors, often pas tels, with just a touch of another color, perhaps an ap- pliqued butterfly or an at tached rosette. No matter what type of lingerie you choose, you can help to retain its fresh new look by proper laundering after every wearing. The Maytag Home Service depart ment says that you can "hand launder" lingerie automati cally in modern home laundry equipment. Washing Care Use a light-duty detergent and the "Delicate Fabric" set ting of your washer. (Or, if your washer is not so marked use warm or cold water and gentle agitation.) Best of all since the stretch in most of the new lingerie comes from spandex fiber rather than rubberized elastic, the gar ments can be dried in your automatic dryer. One last tip from Maytag: if you're washing frilly slips In the same load with girdles and bras, put the slip in a mesh bag, so the lace won't snag on snaps or garters. ACCESSORIES, TOO Sweater-jackets are impor tant for costumes coordinating this spring. Chiffon scarfs inla wide vari ety of plain colors are to be seen in the shops this spring. Many white silk scarfs are shown, some touched with pigment white or bordered in brilliant colors. COLORS MATCH You can wear white under- pinings ail the time, if you like. But there are lots of other colors in foundation garments nowadays, and the colors match lingerie. f IK in I , i ill! 1 hJ ! r wu 1 -r, ft LUXURY LOOK-To brighten rooms and lighten housekeep ing chores, too, are new upholstery and carpeting in con tinuous filament nylon yarns. BOLD COLOR One of the spring's most inspiring looks depends on a bold use of color! Three shades of the same color team are combined. For example: pale green, lime and turquoise . . . or pink, peach and coral. These colors are combined in separates: a blouse, sash and skirt; or jacket, blouse, skirt or pants. NAVY AGAIN Navy and spring always seem to go together. Pale-ton- pd pravs and lnte nf ufhito gleam on the fashion scene. I corals, and turquoises. of its design or cost. Sophis ticated women will love the new high-domed, chunky rings often dusted with stones. Whether these fashion beau ties are set with real or syn thetic stones is a budget mat ter .. . their fashion appeal is sure-fire. For rings with an extra per sonal touch there are the birthstones, each with its own wish of good fortune for the recipient. These birthstone rings range all the way from delicate, conservative settings, to big, bold, beautiful styles from which amethysts, rubies, topazes blaze forth often ac cented with diamonds. Rings for Men The new ring trend isn't ex clusive with the gals either. Men's rings have been enjoy ing popularity in the past few seasons. Gold signet rings, in itial rings, fraternal or pro fessional insignia, or hand some, r u g g e d , masculine stones or birthstones in smart modern settings make these rings a prestige gift any man would receive and wear with pleasure. The birthstones' clue run down, as compiled by the Council, is as follows: Janu ary, garnet; February, ame thyst; March aquarmarine or bloodstone; April, diamond; May, emerald; June, pearl or alexandrite; July, ruby or star ruby; August, peridot or sar donyx; September, sapphire or star sapphire; October, opal or tourmaline; November, to paz; December, turquoise or zircon. Supple Lines Of Spring Repeated For Foundations Fashions for spring have soft, supple lines-and so do the season's foundations. While girdles, brassieres, cor selets tend to cover more of the figure, they do so lightly in the prettiest possible col ors and fabrics. Brassieres shape gently, molding a high and rounded bustline, close to the body. Girdles are marvels of weight lessness and movement, with new waistband and, in pantie girdles, new leg constructions for greater freedom and ease. Corselets feature soft, natural cups, dipping backs, lacy trim mings. With spring's "little boy" suits and casual dresses per mitting no bosom emphasis, none is evident in the newest high fashion brassieres. Pad ding and foam contours are played down, with shaping achieved instead through sub tle bias cuts and cloud-soft cup linings. , Just as couturiers are carv ing out necklines front and back, so are bra designers of fering varied necklines in late day foundations. Wide-set straps are frequently featured, as are back-plunge brassieres both with straps and without straps. Built-up styles are no long er only matronly styles; they come in sheer fabrics for youthful figures. Nor are long line brassieres confined to "problem" figures; they're of fered also for slim sizes to wear under those slivers of dresses that fit smooth, through the midriff. Waistlines move upward in girdles, and leg sections stretch longer in pantie gir dles. Even some junior foun dations fit from just under the bustline all the way to mid-thigh. They're controlling because they're designed to be; comfortable because they are made of spandex; essential because outer fashions subtly define the figure. SPRING COLOR This is the spring for color, according to fashion experts. Brighter color is found in ac cessories than ever before, largely due to new dye pro cesses in accessory leathers and fabrics.
