With this find, a searrh of the Mcdlnrd ordinances show ed that the city's first dog licensing ordinance was num ber 61 and became effective April 1, 1A89. With this ordinance, Med ford received $1.25 for each dog license sold, 25 cents of which was retained by the dog catcher. This ordinance was repeal ed March 8, 18D4, with Ordi nance 128, which changed the amounts for the licenses from only one set amount to $1.25 and $2.75. This remained In effect tpntll April 1, 1912, when Ordinance 655 set the license fees at $1 50 and $3. The dog catcher still retained 251 cents of each license fee. Tile old dog tag was dis covered by E. II. Peebler in an old dresser in the Bart lctt St. house. While reading the old hand written ordinances of the 1800s, It was noted that Or dinance 1 for the City of Medford, effective Dec. 10, 1888, prevented persons from loitering about the depot and cars of the Southern Pacific railroad. The most recent or dinance approved by the Medford city council is num ber 8556. w Food Stamp Program Falls Below Goal Portland il'Pli T h e food stamp program, launched In Multnomah county as a trial project three months ago, has fallen far short of its goal, a spokesman said Monday.
