The product of Miss Skin ner's fascination with "La Belle Epoque" is entitle "Ele gant Wits and Grand Hori zontals. Le Belle Epoque was a time of leisure. Today, we rush about like mad as though we are almost afraid to sit still and read a book, as the author sees it. And in the haste, pleasure is lost. Instead of jetting back to her New York home, she recently took the train. She liked to see the changing countryside. "But when I tell people I'm going home via the train, they act like I'm going home via the covered wagon," she said. Book Is Departure Miss Skinner's new book is a departure from her previ ous volumes of humorous per sonal reminiscences. Her writing habits would delight any aspiring author. She said that she often re tired to a cabin on a relative ly remote section of the Long Island shore to write. "I go there and sharpen pencils for awhile," she said. "Then there'll be a wind and I'll go outside. Then the tide is just right for a swim be cause when the tide is low you can walk practically to Connecticut to get damp. Then it's time for lunch. By the end of the day I have written, at most, one page. And I read it the next day and tear it up." Miss Skinner explained how one of her best known books "When Our Hearts Were Young and Gay," came about. Movie Inspired Book "I had gone to see the movie of 'My Sister Eileen' and what happened to them was no more fantastic than what happened to Emily and me," she said. Emily Kimbrough was co author of the collaboration itself, she said. "Our styles were enough alike so that it was easy. I don't even remem ber now what she wrote and what I wrote." It is an unwritten law of the magazine world that manuscripts be submitted to only one periodical at a time. "But," said Miss Skinner, "Emily and I thought no one would buy the book. "In our naivete we sent it off to the famous magazines, and they all accepted it." 1 1 1 T f Always and all ways C i plenty of hot water with a FAST RECOVERY GAS HOT WATER HEATER W ON DISPLAY AT YOUR OAS APPLIANCE DEALER SCALIFORNIA-PACIFIC UTILITIES COMPANY M.1ll;MJ:l;W;:ll.lH'.'liriH:i;i-J:I.M:l.-H Phone 772-5281, Medford 482-2116, Ashland Holland Princess Now Furnishing Dream Castle Ssve Timel Save Stepil Usa Our Convenient DRIVE-IN SERVICE Drive Right Up to thi Doorl ii i if el ome&iic LAUNDRY & DRY CLEANERS Your Professional Laundry Serving the Rogu Valley Since 1900 "Nothing Mekei Clothes as Clem as a Laundry" n 4 By ELS OUENDAG The lliigue - ill'l'- Holland's unmarried Crown Princess Hi'itliix is fiiinUhini! the dream castle she bought from hrr allowance.
