Thompson, 3290 Jacksonville highway, Medford, announces the forth coming marriage of his daughter, Miss Jewclle Aileen Thompson to John Francis Donahue, son of Fran cis Donahue, Jersey City, N.J. The wedding date has been set for Sunday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m., in the Wayfarers' chapel overlooking the sea at Pacific Palisades, Calif. The bride-elect is a grad uate of Walla Walla college and received her degree in physical therapy at Loma Linda college, Calif. She is employed at the clinic of Drs. Robert B. Portis, Jack Mo shein and' Arthur Brody, orthopedic surgeons of Bev erly Hills, Calif. Miss Thomp son attended Rogue River Junior academy, Medford, and is a graduate of Laurel wood academy, Portland. The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of the University of Illinois and a member of Sig ma Chi fraternity. He was a national AAU swimming champion. He now is em ployed as sales engineer for Electrafilm fn Burbank, Calif. The couple plans a delayed honeymoon to Hawaii in June. 1 Open House Honors Woman Central Point Miss Minnie While of the Lynwood home, Central Point, was honored on the occasion of her eighty fifth birthday February 3. Open house was held by her nephew, John Wisely, and Mrs. Wisely in their home at 1059 Morrow road, Med ford, during the afternoon. Over 40 persons attended. Another nephew, Floyd Wisely, and his wife of Med ford, attended. Other relatives included her grand niece, Mrs. Pete Johnston, with Mr. John ston and their sons, Gary and Tim, Central Point; Mr. and Mrs. David Wisely and son, Jerry, Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Wisely and son Jaymc, Eagle Point. David Wisely and Steven Wisely are grand nephews. A birthday cake was served. Miss White was born in Iowa and also lived in Ne brsksa. Charity Party Is Announced The first charity party of the year for Medford Dupli cate Bridge club players will be conducted Sunday, Febru ary 17. Contributions this year will go to two benefic iaries, the National Multiple Sclerosis society and the In stitute of Logopedics, officers have announced. At the February 5 master point play for the club guest players were Mr. and Mrs. Don Cruikshank, Seattle, Wash. Nineteen tables were in play with two sections. The section A, north-south winners were Mrs. Sam Van Dyke and Al Gilhousen who scored 139 points. Group to Meet On Wednesday The Shakespeare Interest group sponsored by Medfnrd branch, American Association of University Women, will meet Wednesday, February 13, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. John Strong, 2120 Wood lawn drive. The play "Henry V" will be discussed by Mrs. Bruce Nelson, Mrs. James Shoe maker, Mrs. Frank Mee, and Mrs. John Simon. All interest ed persons are invited to at tend. Smith, Detroit, Mich., professional cornet soloist and band leader, will be featured soloist with the Ashland High school symphonic band in a concert planned for Thursday, February 14, in the school gymnasium. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. Raoul G. Maddox, band director, slates thai the guest musician, considered by many to be the nation's finest cornetisl, will play several cornet solos. The program will also include serious and light band music from all periods of music literature. Return Hornbrook Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson returned this week to their home in Atha basca, Alberta, Canada, after a visit of two months here with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Matt John son. The local couple accom panied their visitors as far north as Oregon City, return ing to Hornbrook on Wednesday. Pythian Official To Visit Local Lodge Tuesday Members of Talisman lodge. Knight of Pythias, of Medford will gather at the Pythian building Tuesday, to honor Oregon Grand Chancellor Knights of Pythias Marvin A. Emerson, Forest Grove. Chan cellor Commander of the local lodge is Charles A. Lasher. Plans are to be discussed for the international celebra tion of 100 years of service. The lodge charter was granted by an act of Congress and signed by President Abraham Lincoln on February 19, 1864 Among the lodge's projects are the annual high school students public speaking con test, highway courtesy and poster contests for grade school children, little league baseball teams. Boy Scouts, the junior order of Knights of Pythias for youth from 13 to 18, and assistance to the Pythian Sister temples who sponsor the order of Sunshine Girls. Grand Chancellor Emerson will be in Grants Pass Wednesday for an official visit to Thermopylce lodge. 1 A coffee and social hour will follow both mcttings. Latin American Trip on Program Miss Irma Barnes of Rogue Valley Manor will speak of a r?"pnt trip to Latin America al a meeting of the Women's Fellowship of the Medford Congregational church Thurs day, February 14. The session will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m., in Ihe home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Padgham, 2707 Spnngbrook road. Once again the plans for the proposed new church will be available for study of those present. Home Hornbrook Mrs. Haltie Holland returned Sunday from a three-week visit with relatives and friends In Taft and Bakcrsfield, Calif, where she made her home for many years before moving to Horn brook several months ago. Mrs. Holland is the mother of Mrs Dwain Hamner, Hornbrook. Luncheons Planned By Democrats The E 1 e a n or Roosevelt league will hold the first of a series of monthly luncheon meetings at the Colony rest aurant, Fourth and ' Front streets, Medford, Thursday, February 14 beginning at 12:30 p.m. according lo Mrs. Frank Christian, Talent, presi dent. The report of the nominat ing committee and election of I officers for this year will be held at the meeting. Mrs. Christian urged members to attend and said any women interested in joining the league are invited to come to the luncheon. The decorations committee will use the St. Valentine's day motif in table decor and favors, and any one wishing to exchange valentines with members or to leave them to be sent to members who are ill. are welcome to do so, she said. C 3 Ladies Day Announced For Shasta Ski Bowl Medford area and Ashland women are invited to partici pate in a Ladies Day program at Mount Shasta Ski bowl Wednesday, February 13. A chartered bus will leave the Midford Greyhound bus depot at 8 a.m. A trip planned last Wednesday was cancelled be cause of inclement weather. The Ladies Day program is sponsored by the ski bowl management and ski lessons and use of the rope tow are furnished them without charge, it U stated. All wom en skiers from beginners to experts are invited to take part in the activity. Sight seers also are invited. A nom inal charge is made for the bus trip. Tryouts Announced Footlightcrs will have try outs for a new play, "'Five Finger Exercise" by Peter Shaffer, on Monday and Tues day, February 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. at the Fairgrounds thea ter. The play, a drama, will be directed by Frank Buchtcr. Mr. Buchter has expressed the idea that it would be interest ing to cast this play with all new people. Therefore, any one in Medford or the sur rounding area is invited to try out for a role or otherwise help with the play. Wilson, Foss road, Talent, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Nancy Sue Wilson, to Frederick Lee Mcllish Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Lee Mellish, 117 Black Oak drive, Med ford. The bride is to graduate from Southern Oregon college in social science in March, re ceiving a bachelor of science degree. The bridegroom, a senior at Oregon State university, is majoring in general science and plans to enter veterinari an school this fall. The wed ding is planned for late April. Both the bride-elect and her fiance are 1959 Medford High school graduates. Student To Take Tour Ashland-Miss Judy Bjorlie, who spent a few days between semesters visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bjorlie, 611 Normal avenue, is a member of the Pacific Lutheran university 60-voice Choir of the West. This musical organization from the Tacoms school has been chosen for a summer concert tour of Norway and continental Europe. Leaving by jet May 31 the students will fly to New York and from there to Norway where they are to live aboard a boat during June as guests of the Norwegian government nacn evening tncy will ap pear In concerts. In July the choir will travel south sing ing in many countries includ ing Switzerland and Italy, They expect to return to the United States August 10.
