Electric Club of Area Noting National Week The Southern Oregon Elec tric club has called attention to National Electrical Week, Feb. 10 through 16, which marks the 116th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Alva Edison. Edison founded an indus try that has put the magic of electricity to work to light homes, cook food, wash clothes, power factories, bring in entertainment and protect health, members of the local Electric club pointed out, in voicing cooperation in the tribute to Edison's memory. SEC'IION C PAGES 1 to 10 MedfordTribune The Jackson County Chap ter of the American Red Cross was alerted this week to the need for blood by two valley residents. Mrs. E. W. Segeessenman. honorary life member of the Red Cross board of directors and resident of Shady Cove since 1924, is now confined to Sacred Heart hospital where she will undergo ortho pedic surgery. Mrs. Seggessenman was in jured in an automobile acci dent in British Columbia a year ago. She was hospita lized there for two months then flown to Mrdford by Mercy Flights, Inc., and ad mitted to Sacred Heart hos pital, where she remained for an additional three months man has served as chairman in the Veteran's hospital in Portland. She was re-admitted to the hospital here a month ago and will undergo a spinal fu sion surgical procedure short ly, it added. The amount of blood need ed by Mrs. Seggessenman has not been determined; how ever, past experience would indicate that several units will be needed during and after surgery. Always active in commu nity affairs, Mrs. Seggessen of the Shady Cove Blood Bank since it was first formed several years ago. Her pres ent illness has made it neces sary for her to leave this post. Hoiqt Service Volunteer She also has served as a home service volunteer and has continued to serve in this capacity intermittently dur ing her illness. She antici pates resuming her position in this service following sur gery, the Red Cross noted. Mrs. Abner O. Clark , has requested assistance in ob taining replacement donors for blood administered to her father, J. L. McCollum, dur ing his recent hospitalization erating at the Hawthorne Convalescent hospital in Med ford. Ten pints of blood are needed to replace that used for McCollum during his hos pitalization, and donors are advised that they may give in his name during the next visit of the Red Cross Blood mobile. In Merchintile Business Having been in the mer chantile business in Montana, Mr. and Mrs. McCollum re tired to the Rogue valley al most 30 years ago and have resided in various areas throughout the valley, includ ing Phoenix, Ashland and Medford. Persons may donate blood in the names of either Mrs. Seggessenman or McCollum, or the name of any person or organization they wish during the Bloodmobile visit next week, the Red Cross noted. Hours for the Bloodmobile visit at the Red Cross chap ter house in Medford, 60 Hawthorne ave., will be Mon day from 2 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Bloodmobile will not visit Ashland this trip, but instead will be at the Jewett school in Central Point Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Transportation and baby sitters will be available. The GAO said the purchases late in 1961 totaled S1.14S.000 for-more than 8.000 bearings. It said the prices paid by the Navy ranged from $28 to $52 more per unit than the Air Force paid for the same items.
