One of the large family dinners to be held Tuesday in celebration of Christmas will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter, Topsides, Old Stage road. The Dillon family will return to their home in time for Christmas. Another daughter, Miss Sandra Arant, Is spending the Christmas holiday in Medford with her family. She Is a senior at the University of Oregon, where she Is majoring In liberal arts. Mrs. R. K. Bailey, 135 North Holly street, left December 21 for La Habra, Calif., to spend Christmas with her son, Jack H. Bailey. Later she will go to Downey, Calif., to visit her daughter, Dr. Julia Bailey, who is a specialist in internal medicine on the staff of Rancho Los Amigos. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tolls and Diane, have arrived from their home in Portland to spend the holidays with relatives here. Mr. Tolle la a son of MrB. O. V. Hayes, 91 Reager street, and Harold Tolle, South Stage road. On Christmas day Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Trammcll Jr., and children, Gary and Carol, will entertain at a family dinner at their home 33 Rose avenue. Mrs. J r a Di me 1 is the former Muriel Tolle. Also here for the holidays are Mr. Trammcll's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Trammel!, San Pedro, Calif., and they will be present for the dinner. Mrs. Ira E. McDonald, 110 Lozler lane, Medford, will spend the holidays In Stockton, Calif., with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ira W. McDonald. Her husband will join them for the Christmas week end and also to be there are their other son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin McDonald. Miss JoAnn Johnson, a freshman at Wells college, Aurora, N. Y., returned Wednesday to spend an 18-day holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd S. Johnson, 1101 Mt. Pitt avenue. Russell Robertson, a private In the Marine corps station ed at Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., is on leave for 10 days and is with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Robertson, 868 Oilman road. He was graduated from Medford High school last spring and entered the service then. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Clark and children, Robbie and Laura, former Medford residents and now of Fairbanks, Alaska, are hnuseguests of Mrs. Clark's mother. Mrs. Donald Tackley, and Mr. Tackley, 24 Eastwood drive. During their visit they will be dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Gordon, 915 South Holly street. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Fields, 416 Laurel street, left Friday evening for Covina, Calif., where they will spend the Christ mas holidays with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller. They will return to the valley December 28. In Medford for the holidays is Midshipman Ralph Lob dell who arrived yesterday from the United States Nnval Academy, Annapolis, Md. Last Sunday marked lht beginning of an all-out effort membership drive by Rogue Valley Art association which, according to the board of directors, it "desperately in need of money." Among valley residents interested in the association and Rogue gal lery, supported by the atiociation, are these three who visited the gallery last week. Rogue Gallery Schedules Money Needed by Art Association A show of paintings by members of the Southern Ore gon Society of Artists will open at the Rogue Gallery, 220 West Mam street, on January 5. The present arts and craft sale at the gallery will be packed and shipped Christ mas day by Theodore Lind- berg, gallery director. The new show, to be juried December 21), will be open to the public the entire month of January. Artists may pick up rejected works at the gal lery between January 2 and 4. Mr. Lindbcrg said that the Bizarre Bazaar, recently spon sored by the gallery was a success, raising some $250 for the Rogue Valley Art associa tion. A membership drive Is con tinuing by the association. To explain the purpose of the as sociation and gallery to Inter ested persons and groups, Mr. Lindbcrg will be available to speak to groups during Janu ary. The only Income for the as sociation, which sponsors a minimum of 15 exhibitions during the year, is through memberships. Mr. Lindbcrg explained that money is need ed desperately. Memberships may be purchased for two dollars, students; seven dol lars and a half, general mem bership, and twenty-five dol lars, patrons. Associate mem berships arc also available for higher amounts. Mr. Lindbcrg explained that association members have a Dinners Given In Jacksonville Mrs. Charles J. Walker and Mr. and Mrs. William Frohn mayer were hosts earlier this month for two dinner parties. They were given at Mrs. Walker's home. 107 Black stone alley, Jacksonville. The Seotts, who were en route to Bremerton, Wash., to spend the holidays with relatives, will return south January 2 and will spend another brief time here before continuing south. Paulsen, 508 Hamil ton street, Medford, an nounced tho engagement of their daughter, Connie Lee to Robert L. Thrush, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emery R. Thrush, Camas Valley, Ore. Both are students at Ore gon State university. MLss Paulsen, a graduate of Med ford High school, is a junior in home economics education. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Mr. Thrush, a member of Heckart lodge, will graduate in June from the School of Forestry. Upon graduation, he will be commissioned into the United States Marine corps and will begin flight training at Pcnsacola, Fla. A June wedding in Med ford is planned. Recror and Wife Hold Open House Ashland Sunday after noon, December 16, the Rev. and Mrs. Duane Alvord held open house at the rectory, 271 Beach street. Guests called be tween 3 and 5 o'clock. The Trinity Episcopal rec tor and his wife were assist ed during the reception by wives of church officials and heads of the various women's organizations. A lighted tree in the family room and Christmas greenery about the house and on the tea table provided a gay set ting for the festive event. Bomta Robinson v- i , It ill i warn Hansons Give Two Parties Ashland - Holiday parties In the news the past week include two given by Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hanson in their apartment at 395 East Main street. Evergreens brought in from the woods by the hosts filled the rooms with fragrance and Christmas color. A large cop per pot bought several years ago by the Hansons in the Flear Market of Paris, served as the traditional wassail bowl. Pomander balls floated in the hot spiced drink which was served to the guests in mugs. January 6 Mr. Hanson leaves Ashland for an eight weeks tour which will begin in the northwest at Everett, Wash., and extend into Can ada and Alaska. He will ap pear in repertoire before au diences in cities and in iso lated districts of the far north where he will have to be flown in by bush pilot. "Canada has shown a tre mendous interest in Shake speare," said Mr. Hanson. "And I have received requests in most places for my pcr formance of Kings and Clowns. It seems Canadians are anxious to hear and see the American interpretation." Second in popular demand is William Saroyan's "My Name is Aram," followed by "Moby Dick," which Mr. Han son has given each year in New Bedford, Mass., home town of the author, Herman Melville. Student Arrives From Missouri Robert Heide, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Heide, 1605 East McAndrews road, ar rived home last week from Springfield, Mo. He is a freshman student at Evan gel college, where is a music major. He will spend the holi days here. The student is a 1962 Med ford High school graduate where he was a member of the school's band, orchestra and choir and a coronet solo ist. Recently he has been ac cepted into a national music fraternity, the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He also is a member of the Evangel college touring concert band, not usually open to freshmen students; and the college band, choir, and or ; CllCStra. Former Medford Student Tapped Mrs. Willard Nielsen, the former Miss Marianne Sam uelson. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Allen Samuclson, formerly of 1299 Covina ave nue, Medford, is one of five senior women at Oregon State university, who has qualified for membership in Omicron I national nome economics honorary. The membership is based on scholastic achievement, leadership and promise of fu ture accomplishments. The Samuelsons now make their home in Corte Madera, Calif. She plans to re turn Tuesday evening. Mrs. Littrell has sold her home on Greenway circle and soon will move to 833 Murphy j road.
