SUNDAY. DECEMBER 18. 1962 MEDFOHD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD. OREGCN Gay Holiday Parties Fill December Calendar Dozens of gay parties in homes, clubs and halls are Jilling the holiday calendar. Last evening the tradition al Christmas Charity Ball of Medford Junior Service league, always one of the largest and most important events of the season, was held at Rogue Valley Country club. Another large holiday so cial event was the annual party of Dr. and Mrs. B. A. Cope, given yesterday at their home on Roca street. About 150 guests attended. For these parties Dr. Cope prepares Swedish glogg, making sev eral gallons of the hot, spicy beverage for his guests. Last Sunday Mrs. &. A. Littrell Invited friends to her home on Greenway circle for a cocktail party, third in a series which she planned for fall and winter. About SO guests have been on the guest list for each of these. Mrs. Louise Davis, 1514 Bryant street, entertained De cember 2 at open house hon oring her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Johnson. The couple from Cove, Ore., near La Grande were houscguests for the week and left Tuesday for Palm Springs, Calif. Mrs. Davis will Join them there for the holt day season. About 40 persons called during the open house. Assist ing were Mrs. Charles Hcff- ner and Mrs. Glrard Clark, Arrangements of chrysanthe' mums and seasonal decora' tions were used about the rooms. Among events planned for this week is the annual Christ mas party of Rogue Valley Women Golfer;' association. It will be held Thursday, De cember 20, at 12 noon in Rogue Valley Country club, and members are asked to make reservations by calling the club. A gift exchange is planned and new women members In terested in playing golf are especially invited. Mrs. William Cowning has been elected chairman of the association, and is serving as chairman of party arrangements. Some 100 members and guests attended the Friday evening Christmas party giv en annually by the University club. A buffet supper was served. Decorations for the event were in gold and green along the east wall's beige drapery. Ashland Student Joins Fraternity Ashland-Miss Betty Duffy, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Elli ott F. Duffy, 1950 Oregon street, Ashland, is a recent ini tiate of Gamma Alpha Chi, a national professional adver tising fraternity for women at Arizona Stale university. Miss Duffy was among eight pledges who were iniliated in ceremonies held at the Memo. rial union. She is a Junior studying mass communica tions in the college of liberal arts. Mrs. Julie Tummcrs Invited 60 friends to Mon Deslr inn, Central Point, which she op erates, last Monday evening for cocktails, dinner and danc ing. The guests were from Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass and Jacksonville. , Festive holiday decorations were arranged for the club rooms and tables, and were the work of Mrs. John Mans field and Mrs. H. A. Stanley. League Play January 2 The second play of the sea on of the Broadway Theater League is scheduled here Wednesday, January 2, at the Holly theater. The comedy, "Mary, Mary' will be one of two plays scheduled in January by the league. The other, "Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, January 10. "Mary, Mary" stars Jeffrey Lynn, who appeared here last season in "Critic's Choice," and Patricia Smith. Attendance at the perform ances is limited to those with season memberships in the Broadway Theater league. Women of Rotary Schedule Session Women of Rotary plan their meeting for this week on Wednesday, December 19 at 12:du p.m.. In the home of Mrs. S. Ralph Dinpel, 1 East wood drive. Reservations should be made with Mrs. C. I. Gustafson, telephone 772-2385. A gift exchange is planned. CLMKAL U 1901 'Bizzare' Show Today The public is invited to at tend today's "Bizzare Ba zaar," in the Rogue Art gal lery, 220 West Main street between the hours of 2 and S o'clock. The show and sale of "unusual pieces of art and some trivia is also the third annual "Poor Losers Show It is being held today only in conjunction with the Christ mas exhibit and sale of seri ous art and craft objects be ing conducted throughout this month at the gallery. Proceeds from the "bazaar" will go to the art association fund. The Christmas show and sale will continue at the gal lery through Christmas eve. The programs will be held Tuesday and Thursday, December 18 and 20 and will begin promptly at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium each night, the music depart ment announces. Included on the programs are both traditional and un usual carols and anthems per formed by the a cappcla choir, symphony orchestra, sopho more choir, advanced girls' chorus, mixed chorus, and en sembles. Both concerts are free to the public. Directors for the concerts are Lynn Sjolund, John Drys dale, and Gary Frame. Stu dent accompanists are Char lotte Brown, James Arthur and Kris Skaar. Student Here For Holidays Miss Kathy Murphy, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mur phy, 1001 South Oakdale ave nue, a junior student at Stan ford university, left Saturday morning to return classmates to their homes after the group spent Friday night at the Mur phy home here. Miss Murphy is to arrive back in Medford during the week for the Christmas holi days. After Christmas she plans to travel to Bend, Ore., for skiing, and is to return to the university January 8. The Murphys formerly lived in Bend. Miss Murphy is a chemistry major. 4 Party A Christmas party for Med ford Navy Mothers club has been planned for 1 p.m., Tues day, December 18 at the home of Mrs. Henry Dooms, 156 Van Ness avenue, Ashland. Roberts was an nounced last week by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen R. Byrd, 782 Park street. Her fiance's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Olcy Roberts of Glide. Miss Byrd was graduated from Ashland High school in 1960 and is employed by the Ashland Drug store. Mr. Rob erts, who is with the United States Forest Service, is a 1960 graduate of Glide High school. The couple plans a June wedding. Holiday Party' Southern Oregon alumnae of Delta Delia Delta will hold a Christmas party on Tues day, December 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Gordon Williams. Each member is asked to take a $1 gift which will be exchanged that evening. All Interested members are in vited to attend the party.
