Oregon; and di recting the Recorder to enter statement thereof in the docket of City Liens and publish a notice thereof as required by the Charter. THE CITY OF MEDFORD DOTH ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. WHEREAS, the City Council did heretofore by Ordi nance declare its intention to con struct paving, curbs, gutters and driveways on Newtown Street from Catherine Street to Belmont Street, in the City of Medford. Oregon; and to assess the cost thereof upon each lot or part thereof adjacent to and benefited by such improve ment its proportionate share of the cost of said improvement, and did fix the time and place for hearing protests against the construction of said improvement, and the as sessment of the cost thereof, as aforesaid: and WHEREAS said Ordinance was dulv posted and published as re quired by the Charter of the City; and WHEREAS a meeting of the Council was held at the time and nltr tivaA in mailt OrH intlirr for Pi the purpose of considering any Mich i protests, but no protests were at sucn time, or ai any hi, maoe to. or received by the Council to the construction of said improve ment, or the assessing of the cost thereof, as aforesaid, and said Council has considered the matter and deeming that said construction of said improvement was and is of materia benefit to said City, and that all the property to be assessed therefor will be benefited thereby to th extent of the probable amount of the respective assessments to he levied against said property, did order the construction of said im provement; and WHEREAS, the cost of said im provement has been and hereby is determined to be the sum of $5,884.11. NOW. THEREFORE, it is hereby determined that the proportionate share of the cost of construction said improvement, on each parcel of property 'adjacent to said im- ftrovemcnt and benefited thereby i the amount set opposite the de scription of each piece or parcel of land below, and that each piece or parcel of land benefited by the construction of said improvement, to the full extent of the amount so set opposite such piece of parcel and that the respective amounts represent the proportional bene fits of said improvement to said respective parcels of property, and the Council does hercbv declare that each of the parcels of property described below is hereby assessed the amount set opposite each re soective description, for the cost of the construction of said improve ment. at Summary of the cost assessed for the construction of curbs, gut ters, drivewavs and paving on New town Street from Catherine Street to Belmont Street, in the City of Medford. It is hereby determ ined that the proportionate share of the cost of construction of the East Main Street paving project from 150 feet east of Eastwood Drive to Valley View Drive is the amount set opposite the descrip tion of each parcel of land aa de scribed below. We found later by questioning that almost ev eryone said grape leaves are the proper under-lining for the rock that holds the sliced, pounded, salted cabbage where time and pressure, as well as the chemistry of fer mentation, turns cabbage into sauerkraut. Some said the grape leaf formula had its origin in superstition; others maintained the leaves added a little something to the taste of the kraut. We continued the inquiries, asking people who remem bered well the times that used to be; we analyzed the an swers. The sole reason grape leaves were used was merely because there was usually a grape-arbor near every farm kitchen and the leaves were large and flat. Master James Tristan was installed Employment Service Placements Are Up Salem - IUPD - Job place ments by the Oregon State Employment service were up more than 100 per cent in November compared to a year ago, Eldon Cone, director, Oregon State Employment service, has announced. In November 1962 OSES placed 20,281 in jobs com pared to 10,099 in November 1961. A total of 5,828 of these were in non-farm jobs, an in crease ot 29.9 per cent over last November and 14,433 were in farm jobs, an increase of 157 per cent over last No vember, Cone said. At the same time, initial claims for unemployment in surance in November were down 14.8 per cent compared to last November, and benefit payments were down over 24 per cent. Cone said he thought that much of the increase in place ments was due, not only to an increase in jobs available in construction, government and industry this year, but to a slcppcd-up program of co operation ot the Oregon Stale Employment service with all phases of Industry and better facilities now available in OSES to help persons seeking employment.
