Opening kick is billed for 8 p.m. At stake is a berth in next week end's championship finale in Portland's Multno mah stadium. The other fin alist will be either North Salem or Jefferson of Port land. They are foes also to night on a Salem field. Oregon City seeks to add further brilliance to a rags-to-riches season. The Pioneers of. 1961 did not win a game.. This season's 10-tilt record is marred only by a lie. Now. Oregon City, champion of the Tualatin - Yamhill Valley league, is a gridiron semi finalist for the first time in the history of the school. Medford, missing from state playoff only once since 195H, is a semifinalist for the fifth time in seven seasons. The Black Tornado is bidding for state titular laurels after last wearing the crown in 1959. Tussle In Sand Tornado griddcrs go on the field as favorites as the state's No. 1 rated team in all polls. Oregon City also was amoni! the rated. Pollsters ranked th.; Pioneers ninth. But the Dis trict 4 team likely is paying little heed to ratings. Coach Tom Keele has informed a Portland writer that his Big Red was not going south for the climate. He has said he feels his Pioneers capable ot playing in any league. The game tonight may go down in history as "the tussle in the sand." Mud was scraped from the center of the field from hash mark to hash mark this week and replaced with sand in effort to provide bet ter footing for the fray. Plas tic covers then were spread. Medford Head Coach Fred Spiegelberg remarked, "The field is untried. It will be strange footing for both teams. The Ducks, who have a 6-2-1 record, are favored by two points against the host Beavers, who own a 7-2 mark. A capacity crowd of around 28,000 is forecast for the game at Parker Stadium here. Oregon State and Oregon rank second and fourth in total offense in the country. The Beavers have rolled up an average of 392.1 yards per game and the Ducks have averaged 367.2 yards per con test. Two of the Pacific Coast's top All-American candidates will match talents. They are Oregon Stale quarterback erry Baker and Oregon half back Mel Renfro. High School Teammates Raker, a senior, leads the natjon in ,ota offense with 2,159 yards, 1.648 by pass ing, and Renfro, a junior, has picked up 678 by rushing. Tickets on Sale For Grudge Bout Thursday Night Reserved scat tickets went on sale today for next Thurs day night's grudge match on the wrestling mat at Medford armory. The tickets are at Lamport's Sporting Goods store in Medford. The match pits Nick Kozak, the airplane spin artist, against Iiaru Sasaki, a judo specialist. The grudge de veloped on the Nov. 8 card when Kozak, in street clothes, jumped into the ring to break up a Japanese sleeper hold j which Sasaki had applied to Tonv Evans and which he re fused to break. Titans Tip Denver Club United Press International The Boston Patriots, still involved in a tight race for the championship of the East ern Division, are four-point favorites to down the Buffalo Bills in their American Foot ball league clash tonight. In Sunday's games, Houston (7-3), which paces the divi sion, plays the San Diego Chargers (3-7) at Houston and Dallas (8-2) entertains Oak land (0-10). The San Diego Houston Oiler game will be televised (ABC) nationally. Dallas is a 20-point favo rite and Houston is a '13-point favorite. Boston 6-3-1. handicapped by the loss of quarterback Babe Parilll for the remain der of the season, needs a victory over Buffalo to keep on Houston's trail. The Western Division was virtually decided before a na tional television audience on Thursday, when the New York Titans (5-6) edged the Denver Broncos (7-5) at Den ver, 46-45. Dallas can clinch at least a tie for the title by defeating Oakland on Sunday. It was a bitter windup of the home season for the Bron cos, who were in strong con tention for the Western divi sion honors until dropping four of their last five games, including four straight before the home fans.
