Delicate pendants, classic gold pins and conversation type rings, sprinkled with dia monds, come in a variety of designs (or every taste and budget. Precious jewelry designers have answered the strong ap peal to own the king of gems. By silhouetting a diamond or two against a textured design background, they make prec ious pieces in a wide range of prices. Both 14-karat and 18-karat gold are used, the latter being somewhat soft er. Shades of sun-yellow are most popular, but green-gold or pink-gold can lend a dra matic touch to Florentine fin ish and unusual surface treat ments.
