CALL 773-6661 NOW SEARS SERVICE CENTER Progress Noted in Newspaper Talks New York - (UPIl - Progress was reported today on the major issues in the Newspaper Guild's strike against the New York Daily News following a seven-hour meeting between federal mediators and negotia tors from both sides. The bargaining session, which began at 8:30 p.m. Tues day, was recessed at 3:30 a.m. Negotiators were scheduled to reconvene at 2:30 p.m. today. "Progress has been made to night in resolving the remain ing issues in the Daily News dispute," John Leslie, deputy assistant secretary of labor, said shortly after the meeting broke up. M00-0-0S and MUSINGS Ecumenical Council Debates Sacraments Vatican City - IUPII -The Ecumenical Council today de bated the seven sacraments that affect every Roman Cath olic from the cradle to the deathbed. The sacraments, which can on law calls the "principal means of sanctity and salva tion," range from baptism to extreme unction - the last rites. The others are confirma tion, matrimony, confession, communion and holy orders. The pace of the discussions is expected to pick up under new instructions issued by Pope John XXIII Tuesday. The Pope ruled that dis cussion on any topic can be cut off whenever the council presidency deems it proper and the council fathers ap prove by a show of hands. Formerly there was no limit on discussion beyond a rule holding speakers to 10 min utes on each subject. The council Tuesday dis cussed proposals to make the marriage ceremony "a more conscious and devout celebration."
