SALVAGE OPEHATIONS-Tho British freighler Montrose, which sank in the Detroit river at Detroit, Mich., July 30, after a collision with a cement barge, is surrounded by heavy salvage equipment. The Montrose sank in 44 feet of water beneath the Ambassador bridge. Salvagers say the huge ship will be refloated almost any day new. (UPI) MedfordkITribune SECTION B MEDFORD. OREGON, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1962 PAGES 1 to 10 United Air Lines Employee Has 30 Years With Firm ,, Ken Cook, 2226 Aloha st., Mcdford, recently observed his thirtieth anniversary with United Air lines. Cook, Customer Services manager for the lines at the Medford airport, has lived in Mcdford and held that posi tion since September, 1952. He previously held the same position for 10 years in Rock Springs, Wyo. Cook was presented with his 30-year pin in an informal ceremony in Portland. Mak ing the presentation was R. F. Gardner, Seattle, regional manager of Customer Serv ices. During Cook's tenure in Medford the company's per sonnel at the Medford air port has grown from 10 to 17 members and during this brief period of time, he has seen many changes in types of aircraft used. Cook has held numerous positions with the air lines, beginning with United as a radio operator and also me chanic. He joined the firm in 1932 at Oakland, Calif., and held positions at Burbank and San Diego, Calif., before go ing to Rock Springs. He lives at the Aloha st. address with his wife, Isobel. Brecount Brothers Bid High on Timber Klamath Falls Brecount Brothers were the successful bidders on 5,500,000 board feet of Winema National for est timber, Supervisor Alex Smith has announced. This was the Crystalline Spring sale located on the Klamath Ranger district. Other bidders for this tim ber included Klamath Lumber and Box, Ellingson Timber company, Steve O. Wilson and Kogap Manufacturing com pany. Brecount paid $74,055 for this sale, which had an ap praised value of $72,225. 1 Vern Voss, Medford High School wood shop instructor, state president, will preside at the general meeting of the Oregon Industrial Arts associ ation fall conference, Friday and Saturday at Sunset High school, Beaverton. More than 500 Oregon shop teachers will be in attendance to view the many commercial exhibits and attend seminars covering power mechanics, drafting, welding safety, elec tronics and graphic arts. Skill sessions will have demonstra tions showing the use of For mica, machine care and main tenance, spraying and mainte nance of compressors, small tool care and cordless tools and hand tools. Dr. Walter Hiltner, chief, propulsion unit, flight tech nology department, Aerospace division, Boeing Airplane company, will be the banquet speaker. Attending the conference from Medford besides Voss will be Keith Bayne, Duane Richardson, Don Manning, Medford High school; Lee Harter and Jack Pfeifer, Mc Loughlin Junior High and Bill Schulz, Hedrick Junior High schools.
