It concerns the battle for the na tion's state houses, from which the 1964 GOP presidential nominee probably will emerge. By LOUIS CASSELS Washington UPli- The rich est political . prizes within reach of the Republicans on Nov. 6 will be the governor ships of several pivotal states. Thirty-five of the 50 states will elect governors with na tional interest centering on California, Michigan, Pennsyl vania, Ohio and Texas. In each of these large and popu lous states, GOP candidates are making strong bids for gubernatorial chairs now oc cupied by Democrats. If they should succeed, it would give them a powerful operating base to' strengthen the party to resist President Kennedy's generally expected bid for a second term. In New York. Republican Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller is rated a shoo-in for reelection over Democrat Robert M. Morgenthau. I f Rockefeller wins big, he will be the man to beat for the 1084 GOP pres idential nomination. But several potential rivals for that nomination may emerge from other guberna torial races, if Republican candidates are victorious. Fights for Political Lite In California, former Vice President Richard M. Nixon, the GOP presidential nominee 11)60, is fighting to stay alive in politics by unseating Democratic Gov. Edmund G. Brown. The Brown -Nixon campaign has turned into the noisiest political- battle Cali Hope studio included Carol Yamada, Carolyn Berry, De bra Mason, Janet Mason and Carl Huson. Mrs. Bert Stancliffe, a Phoe nix teacher, talked on "The Phases in Education." Mclvin Lattie explained the organiza tion of the death benefit soci ety and how it will operate. Another musical group was Mrs. Eve Webster, Ron Bart lctt, Ralph Roberts, Ralph Et tel, Earl Davis, Fred Chn quette and singer Miss Judy Stuart. YOU KNOW WHERE CARL FISHER STANDS!
