UN Chapter Makes Plans For Annual Observances First plans for the observ ance of United Nations' week nnd day and -for the annual Halloween project of the Medford chapter, Oregon United Nations association, were made at a recent meet ing of the chapters' board of directors. Mrs, C. T?ease Rralry is Auxiliary Serves Crusade Luncheon Mrs. N. F. Gier reported during a meeting of the Med ford Lions auxiliary held last week that plans had been completed for the Medford Crusade luncheon which the auxiliary was to serve today. The recent meeting was in the home of Mrs. Edward Ashton with Mrs. Anthony Cappcllo assisting. Mis. Harry LyU-r, vice pres ident, presided at the meet ing. She reported on a recent district workshop held in Grants Pass. Plans for a group party were announced by Mrs. Her bert S e i 1 z. entertainment chairman. She reported that Sunday schools of Medford, Ashland and other towns of the county are being contacted and that a number have indicated their willingness to aid the project again this year. The Halloween projeel, now carried on in hundreds of towns and cities throughout the United States, benefits the United Nations International Children's Emergency fund. The money collected is used to buy fond and medicine in countries particularly in need. The hoard meeting was prefaced with a film about the United Nations entitled "What Can I Do?" and point ing out Ihe individual's re sponsibility toward this or ganization. It was procured by Mrs. Firalcy. It was announced that Unit ed Nations week is October 21-27, and UN day, October 24. It was pointed out thai a kit of material outlining the 11)112 UN program and issues will be available at the Li brary nf Medford and Jackson County in the near future. The club will conduct a Halloween card party for cou ples on Friday, October 20 in Hie Girls Community club. Shasta honored Mrs. Adelaide Moore head, grand guardian of Cali fornia, recently when she made her official visit to the bethels. Initialed Into Mt. Hamilton and Mrs. Bee Bar neit. i Delta Gammas Plan Meeting At Blind Center To stress the fraternity's national project, sight conser vation and aid to the blind, Rogue Valley Alumnae chap ter of Delta Gamma will meet Wednesday, October 17, at the Rehabilitation Center for the Blind, 248 East Stewart ave nue. Clyde E. Richardson, coun cilor for the Southwest dis trict office of the Oregon Di vision of Vocational Rehabili tation, will guide the group on a lour of the center. Following the tour. Mr. Richardson will speak of the needs and services of the cen ter, and discuss the oppor tunities for volunteer work by the sighted. Volunteer hours of work by Delta Gamma in the national project averages more than 28,000 a year, the chapter re ports. Each year scholarships are given to orthoptic technicians and to teachers or consultants of visually handicapped chil dren. Each local alumnae and collegiate group chooses its own phase of this service in which to work, assisting nurs ing schools, sight saving class es, home teachers, vision screening programs, aiding in stitutions, homes, societies, clinics and hospitals, camps and rehabilitation centers, and personal services to individ uals. The local alumnae group finances its efforts with funds from an annual benefit card party held each January. St. Mark's To Host Convocation The clergy and laywomen of the Southern Convocation of the Diocese of Oregon will meet Tuesday at SI. Marks Episcopal church here. The Rev. George R. V. Bol ster, rector of St. Marks, is dean of the convocation, which includes all parishes and missions between Cottage Grove and the California line. Grand Guardian Conducts Installation of Council Shady Cove - The guardian council for Bethel 56, Inter national Order of Job's Daughters, were installed during the recent' official visit to the bethel by Mrs. Kenneth Gildncr, Portland grand guardian of Oregon. Miss Marcia Ackerman, honored queen, presided for the session at which three candidates also were installed. Mrs. Gildner presided for the installation of the guard ian council when she installed Ted Flury associate guardian; Mrs. Rick Eastin, secretary; Mrs. John Wilson, treasurer; Mrs. Dale Ackerman, music and publicity; Mrs. John Minor, hospitality; Mrs. Earl Sheppard, sociability; Mrs. Al len Rodgcrs, epochs. Mrs. Edward Learning, merits; Mr. Rodgers, fraternal relations and Mr. Minor, transportation, were also in stalled. Mrs. Gildner was assisted by Mr. Minor, Mrs. J. A. Miss Marcia Ackerman, was pre sented a gift from Mrs. Gild ner and the associate grand guardian, William Harris. The bethel presented Mrs. Gildncr a bouquet of roses. Pins were exchanged by Mr. Minor and Mr. Flury and Mrs. Sheppard received a past guardian's pin. Escorted and introduced during the meeting were Mrs. Gildner: senior princess. Refreshments were served by Miss Watson, Miss Tanya Bcdingficld and Mrs. Marilyn Learning and their mothers. Defense Director Valley Visitor Central Point - Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Skinner, Salem, were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker, 4229 Hamrick road. Mr. Skinner, a retired U.S. Navy officer, is Civil Defense director of Marion counly. They were en route to San Diego for a reunion wilh the former shipmates of Mr. Skin ner aboard the battleship USS Mississippi planned lor October 13. They will visit friends in San Francisco be fore returning to Salem.
