The group is one of the valley's best known social and civic groups and the league's main project is a kindergarten for hard of hearing children. Members of the court and the Initiates together attended the 8:30 o'clock morning mass at Sacred Heart Catholic church and from there went to the new Knights of Columbus hall on Black Oak drive. Knights of Columbus mem bers served breakfast with Alex Austin as chairman. Mrs. George llolzinger was in charge of the decorations. Mrs. Herbert Ed wards of the local Beta Upsi Ion chapter has been choscc as the convention chairman for that year. The City council of the sorority has scheduled a meet ing for Monday, October 13 at 8 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Carrol Adams. 232 North Sec ond street in Central Point. At the last council mectinfi recently In the home of Mrs. Wilson G. Slater on Jackson ville highway, each chapter reported on social events planned for the year. Since the city council spon sors several events each year, the different chapters were put in charge of these events. Alpha Ucta chapter will have charge of the summer swim party; Xi Beta Kappa chapter, publicity; Beta Upi Ion chapter, Valentine ball; Gamma Rho chapter, ways and means; Gamma Xi chap ter, Founders day, and proper ties chairman, Alpha Rha chapter. Three had been contracted earlier mak ing a total of five concerts for the season. The new additions are Jorge Bolct, Cuban pianist, who will appear on November 23, 1962; and the other is a Spanish flamenco dance group, a troupe of six, billed as Susan na Y Jose, who will be here on April 2, 1963. The three previously engag ed are the Gregg Smith sing ers scheduled for January 20, 1963; William Warfield, bari tone, February 4, 1963, and Tipton's Chamber music, May 16. 1963. .JVlr. Bolet mainly received Nurse Will Serve On State Board Mrs. Christine Bates, RN, of Medford. was elected to the board of directors of the Oregon Nurses association during the 58th annual con vention of the group hold October 10 and 12 in Salem. Over 350 nurses from through out the state attended. Sister Maureen, a national ly known nursing leader from Honolulu, Hawaii, gave the keynote address on the theme, "Together for Better Patient Care." She is the administra tor of St. Francis hospital and a member of the board of directors of the American Nurses' association. Featured speakers included Gov. Mark Hatfield, Raymond E. Vester, Portland, director of the American National Red Cross and Miss Barbara J. Browne, Portland, president of the Oregon Nurses associ ation. Sessions included infornvi- tion on the improvement of nursing care, legislation, nurs- ing education, economic secur ity, public relations and legal problems of concern to nurses. Nurses in the delegation from this area included Mrs. Jane Anders, ONA District 4 president; Miss Frances Clink, president-elect; Mrs. Pierrette Staten, treasurer; Mrs. Lilu McDowell, Mrs. Frieda Fon taine, Mrs. Mary Cook and Mrs. Joyce Smith. The next meeting of Dis trict 4 members will be Tues day, October 16 at 8 p.m., when reports of the delegates to the convention will be given. W V". The Susanna Y Jose troupe will present authentic peasant dances in costume. Family Returns From Stay Abroad Ashland - Houseguests ar riving last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Miller, 1059 Pari: street, were their daughter and family, Larry R. Edwards arid Mrs. Edwards and their two children. Mr. Edwards is in the Army and the Edwards have been sta tioned in Paris. They are to be assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash., next month. They flew to New York where they picked up a car and drove across the continent. This week end the Millers' other daughter and her fam ily planned to join them.
