Building Fund Canvass Set By Local Congregational The Congregational church will hold its building fund canvass Sunday. Funds are needed to build a new church and educational plant at the corner of East Jackson st. and Berkeley Way. Each member and friend of the church will be visited Sunday between 2 and S p.m. The service of worship will be held at 11 a.m. in the audi torium of Hoover Grade school on Siskiyou blvd., east of South Modoc rd. Church School classes will meet in the school band room and cafeteria at the same hour. Taking part in the canvass Sunday service will be the Rev. Harris E. Hcverly, Den ver, Colo., secretary of the church finance advisory serv ice, who has been working with the church during this week In preparation for the canvass visitation. As the worship hour be gins, Mr. Heverly will speak to the children of the church school about the part they may play in the building of a new church. Christian Living School To Start Sunday Evening "A High Culling" will be the subject of Dr. George Roseberry's sermon at First Methodist church Sunday. Miss Sharon Smith and Mr. Michael Johnson will sing a duet, "Hold Thou My Hand," at both morning worship ser vices. The youtn cnoir win sing "Jerusalem, My Happy Home" at 9:30 a.m. and the chancel choir will sing "God Be In My Head" at 11 a.m. The School of Christian Living will start Sunday at S p.m. Three classes are being offered with different lead ers each of the six Sundays. The first class is "Responsible Adults for Tomorrow's World" with a film "The Bright Side" being shown. Mrs. O. P. Taylor is the lead er. The second class offered is on "Churchmanshlp" and will be conducted by the steward ship and finance commission with Elliott Beckcn. leader. A film "The Will of Augusta Nash" will be shown. Walter Higglns will lead the third class on the nature and mission of the church, "The Church Is Mine." There will be classes for school age children as well as adults. The Junior High and Senior High Methodist Youth Fellowships will join the rest of the church at the snack supper served by the Ship mates class at 0:30 p.m. fol lowed by their regular Sun day evening programs. The Senior High MYF will have as their guest Sunday, Garner Haupert, who will show his slides and talk about his trip to Norway last sum mer. The Methodist Men will have their monthly dinner meeting Thursday at 6:30 pm. in Wesley hall. "Senior Citizens in Medford" will be the theme. The program will be conducted by Mr. Higgins. Omar Bacon, and Dr. Frank Roberts. The Senior Activity Center orchestra will furnish the music. Crusade Speaker Christian Life Series Continues The Christian Life crusade will continue nightly at First Southern Baptist church, 794 Lozicr lane, with Dr. Harvey C. Roys Jr., guest speaker. Dr. Roys is the son of mis sionary parents who served in China until 11121, After re ceiving his doctorate of med icine degree from the Uni versity of Oklahoma school of medicine in 11)43, he served in the U. S. Army in Okinawa and Korea. Following his dis charge he took specially train ing Ht the New York Univer sity, Bellview Medical cen ter, skin and cancer unit. He is now pastor of the Brooklyn Avenue Baptist church, Seattle, Wash., and Is president of the Kingdom Building Foundation of Wash ington. McKAY Here From University First Christians To Hear Field Representative The Rev. Adrian L. McKay, field representative for Drake university divinity school, Dcs Moines, Iowa, will be the guest speaker at both services Sunday morning at the First Christian church. In addition to pastoral and university work, Mr. McKay takes an active leadership in community affairs. At the first service the youth choir will sing "Jesus, I Love Thee." Other groups are completing plans for beginning their discus sions during the next two weeks. According to Mrs. Arthur Becker, chairman of the CCD activity, an increased interest In the study sessions for adults is evident this year be cause much of the material to be discussed concerns Ro man Catholic church govern ment and ecumenical coun cils. Selected as a text to be used at the current meetings is Volume II of the Practical Catholic Life series, entitled "What Every Catholic Should Know" and edited by the Rev. Hugh J. O'Connell of the Re demDtorist Fathers. John Grimlcy missionary to Nigeria for 17 years, will speak Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at Church of the Brethren, 345 Mary st. His topic will be "Is Your Church Growing?" Mr. Grimley will be one of the speakers at the local church during the week end session of the 53rd annual conference of the Oregon dis tricl of Church of the Breth ren. The session started this morning and will continue through Sunday noon. Keynote speaker tonight at 7:30 o'clock and again Satur day at 7 p.m. will be Dr. Har old D. Fasnachl, president of La Verne, Calif., college. His topics will be "Profile of the Church in 1972," tonight, and "How Docs Your Garden Grow?" Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Grimlcy and their four children are now on furlough, living in Spring field, Ore. He is attending Northwest Christian college, Eugene. Mrs. Grimlcy is author of a book "Children of the Bush Country," which is illustrated by her husband. Theme for the conference here is "Jesus Christ the Light of the World." Maurice Rhoden. missionary to Japan now on furlough in the United States, will speak Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly st Mr. Rhoden has been work ing in evangelism at Hok kaido following a year of language study in Tokyo. He began his work in Japan in 1957. Mr. Rhoden will describe the work in Japan and show colored slides. The Rev. Harold M. San ncr, pastor will preach Sun day at the 11 a.m. service on Ephcsians. The subject will be "To Make All Men See." The topic for Mr. Sanner's message in the 7 p.m. hour is "Everything But God." Football Theme A fall program following the football theme is now under way in the Sunday school of the Oregon Pacific District Churches of the Naz arene. Emphasis is on the home department enrollment and also on the teen-age de partments. The theme for the latter is, "Go Teens Go." Perry Christiansen, minis ter of education and music, has announced that perfect at tendance awards will be pre sented during the Sunday school hour Sunday. Highest honors go to Charles Leschcn sky for 14 years of perfect at tendance, and to Fay Stiehl and Mrs. Clarence Starkcy for 13 years each. Laymen To Hear Panel Discussion The regular monthly din ner for the laymen of St. Mark's parish will be held in the Guild hall Monday at 6 p.m. The program, following the dinner, will take the form of a panel discussion on "Ihe' re sponsibilities of the Episcopal layman." Following a brief presentation by each member of the panel, an open discus sion period will be held with all invited to participate. The panel, which will be moderated by Robert W. Voegtly. will include the Rev. John Bright, representing the clergy; Mrs. Margaret Philips, the ehurchwomen; Eugene Donahoo, the vestry; and Bob Beatty. the laymen.
