Hunting Season Opens at Church A Bible school hunting sea son contest is now in progress at Central Church of Christ, 1440 South Oakdale ave. Each person who attends Bible school becomes a licensed iuintcr and is given a "dear lag" to fill by bringing some one to Bible school next week. There will be three more Sundays in the hunting season contest at the end of which there will be Individual awards as well as an award for the class whose members combine to bring in the most game on a percentage basis. The purpose of the assem bly is to begin the years con ference program in the Meth odist Youth District Fellow ships. The session will begin to night at 5 o'clock ind con clude Sunday morning. It is under the direction of the Conference Youth Director the Rev. Robert McGlone, Portland, and the Rev. Cal vin McConnell, chaplain, Wil lamette university. The students will be housed in homes of the local church members and meals will be served in the church by the Woman's Society of Christian Service. 'Family Contact' Event Continues The Nazarene "family con tact" emphasis continues through Oct. 14 in the local Churches of the Nazarene. The goal and slogan is "14 families contacted in 14 days." SMITH On Minion Assignment Mormons Attend Conference at Salt Lake City A delegation from Klamath stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, headed by Ronald Phair, Klamath Falls, president are in Salt Lake City, Utah, this week end attending the gen eral conference. Among those attending are stake counselors Dennis R. Hasscll, Ashland, and Harold L. Catmull, Klamath Falls. Bishops attending from Med ford are David Peterson, Ward 1, and Dr. Dwaine E. Nelson, Ward 2. Others include Mrs. Peter son, Mrs. Phelps, Mrs. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Rawlins, Central Point; Raymond L. Smith, and Roger Wright Har ris. The general conferences are held in October and April of each year in Salt Lake City. Members of the local wards will view the program Sun day from 9 to 11 a.m. over KBES-TV. The conference, scheduled Oct. 6 through 8, will include general authori ties of the church as well as speakers and singing by the Mormon Tabernacle choir. Smith, a member of Ward 1, was recently honored at a farewell testimonial prior to leaving for assignment to the central Atlantic states mission. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, 852 West 14lh St., Medford, and has been active in the Mutual Im provement association. He is a graduate of Medford High school and attended Univer sity of Oregon for two years. Smith will attend the gen eral conference prior to enter ing a one week school In Salt Lake City before leaving for his eastern missionary assign m e n t. Fellowship Event Scheduled Monday A fellowship meeting of the Assembly of God churches in this area has been scheduled for Monday, Oct. 8, at Med ford's First Assembly of God church, 1108 West Main St., it was announced by the pas tor, the Rev. Robert E. Cull. The Rev. Charles Henson, Merlin, will speak at the 2:30 p.m. service. At 8:30 p.m. (here will be a meeting of the Women's Mis sionary council with Mrs. Roy A. Congregational To Hold Services at Hoover School Beginning Sunday the Con gregational church will hold its service of worship and church school classes in Hoov er grade school, on Siskiyou blvd., just east of South Mo doc rd. The school will be used for the church's Sunday activities until a new church building is constructed on East Jackson st. at Berkeley way. The Lord's supper will be served Sunday and the Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister, will preach on "Common Things Made Sacred," at 11 a.m. in the school auditorium. At the same hour, the church school will meet. Ba bies and toddlers will be cared for in the health room, the three, four and five year olds in the band room and the first through sixth graders in the school cafeteria. Sunday at 7:30 p.m. the members of the Pilgrim Fel lowship will attend the show ing of the film "West Side Story" at the Cratcrian thea ter. Official to Arrive The Rev. Harris E. Heverly. Denver, western secretary of the church finance advisory service of the United Church of Christ, will arrive in Med ford Monday, Oct. 8. He will conduct a series of meetings during the week prior to Oct. 14 when the church will conduct a finan cial project vis i t a t i o n. Throughout next week he will meet with the various church groups and will meet nightly with the canvasser teams, as sisting them in the building fund campaign. Minister Assumes Duties in Phoenix Phoenix The Rev. Jack Quails has assumed duties as minister of the Church of the Nazarene in Phoenix. Prior to his graduation from Pasadena college, Mr. Quails was youth sponsor and active in the athletic program of the First Church of the Nazarene, Medford. Mr. Quails replaces the Rev. Walter C. Morris who was minister at the church for three years. He is now in the northern part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. Quails have three children. She is the for mer Katherine Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Caldwell, formerly of Med ford. Zion Lutheran Announces Subjects The sermon topic Sunday by the Rev. Harvey C. Inquiry Classes To Start Monday Adults interested in investi gating the teachings and prac tices of the Roman Catholic faith are invited to attend the latest series of inquiry classes scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 8. The Rev. John A. Ilg, as sistant pastor at Sacred Heart church, will conduct the week ly sessions for a period of about 25 weeks. Classes are held in St. Mary's grade school, 11th and Ivy sts., and begin at 8 p.m. According to Father Ilg, no one who registers for the course is obliged to attend all the classes or to make a com mitment of any kind to the church. It is his hope that through this series of meet ings, particularly during this ecumenical year, a better knowledge and understanding of the Catholic religion will be made possible for many living in the local area. " A Catechism for Inquir ers" by the Rev. Joseph I. Malloy, CSP, will be used as a guide and copies of the book may be obtained in class. Baptists Announce Coming Activities "The Prayer Life of Our Lord" will be the subject of the morning message at the First Baptist church Sunday by the pastor, the Rev. Ber nard E. Andrews. DUGAN Watchtower Society Official Circuit Assembly Opens in Valley Central Point - Lester M. Dugan, representative of the Watchtower Bible and Tract society, will be keynote speak er this evening at the opening of the Jehovah's Witnesses cir cuit assembly at the Central Point Junior High school gym nasium. Some 1,200 delegates are expected to attend. Dugan will speak on "Spread the Word of Life" and a model ministry school will feature six student speak ers. All sessions will be held in the gymnasium and will open with singing and individual experiences relating to the Christian ministry. Saturday the main feature will be a talk on dedication and baptism at 1:30 p.m. Ministerial activity for the past six months will be re viewed by Dugan Saturday at 6:45 p.m. followed by Albert W. Button, Yreka, full time minister, discussing the privi leges of the full time ministry. The remainder of the evening program will demonstrate the importance of calling on per sons.
