First Church Here
Three hundred high school
youths are expected at the
First Methodist church for the
Fall District assembly of the
Methodist Youth Fellowship,
Oregon conference this week
end.
The purpose of the assem
bly is to begin the years con
ference program in the Meth
odist Youth District Fellow
ships. The session will begin to
night at 5 o'clock ind con
clude Sunday morning. It is
under the direction of the
Conference Youth Director
the Rev. Robert McGlone,
Portland, and the Rev. Cal
vin McConnell, chaplain, Wil
lamette university.
The students will be housed
in homes of the local church
members and meals will be
served in the church by the
Woman's Society of Christian
Service.

Quails has assumed duties as
minister of the Church of the
Nazarene in Phoenix. Prior to
his graduation from Pasadena
college, Mr. Quails was youth
sponsor and active in

First Church of the Nazarene,
Medford.
Mr. Quails replaces the Rev.
Walter C. Morris who was
minister at the church for
three years. He is now in the
northern part of the state.

To Start Monday
Adults interested in investi
gating the teachings and prac
tices of the Roman Catholic

latest series of inquiry classes
scheduled to begin Monday,
Oct. 8.
The Rev. John A. Ilg, as
sistant pastor at Sacred Heart
church, will conduct the week
ly sessions for a period of
about 25 weeks. Classes are
held in St. Mary's grade
school, 11th and Ivy sts., and
begin at 8 p.m.
According to Father Ilg, no
one who registers for the
course is obliged to attend all
the classes or to make a com
mitment of any kind to the
church. It is his hope that
through this series of meet
ings, particularly during this
ecumenical year, a better
knowledge and understanding
of the Catholic religion will be
made possible for many living
in the local area.

guide and copies of the book
may be obtained in class.

First Baptist church meets
in the auditorium of the Wil
son school at Grand and Co
rona aves. The new church is
under construction on Crater
Lake ave. near Stevens st.
The hour for the Sunday
evening activities is being
changed this week. The fam
ily hour will meet at 6 p.m.
There will be study groups
for the young people and an
adult training course in "Old
Testament Survey."
At the 7 p.m. service the
pastor will sepak on, "At the
Feet of Jesus." Music for this
service will include a violin
solo by Mrs. Richard Morris
and a vocal solo by Paul An

topic Sunday at the 11 a.m.
worship service at First Meth

Opens in Valley
Central Point - Lester M.
Dugan, representative of the
Watchtower Bible and Tract
society, will be keynote speak
er this evening at the opening
of the Jehovah's Witnesses cir
cuit assembly at the Central
Point Junior High school gym
nasium. Some 1,200 delegates are
expected to attend.
Dugan will speak on
"Spread the Word of Life"
and a model ministry school
will feature six student speak
ers. All sessions will be held in
the gymnasium and will open
with singing and individual
experiences relating to the
Christian ministry.
Saturday the main feature
will be a talk on dedication
and baptism at 1:30 p.m.
Ministerial activity for the
past six months will be re
viewed by Dugan Saturday at
6:45 p.m. followed by Albert
W. Button, Yreka, full time
minister, discussing the privi
leges of the full time ministry.
The remainder of the evening
program will demonstrate the
importance of calling on per
sons. Sunday at 3 p.m. the talk,
"The Bible's Answer to Our
Problem of Survival," will be
given by Dugan. The final ses
sions begin at 4:30 p.m. and
the assembly will be conclud
ed at 6 p.m. with song and
prayer.
