WALSH Joseph Francis Walsh, for mer Jackson county jailer and father of former Jackson coun ty sheriff, Joseph Walsh, Med ford, died Sept. 26 in Bridge port, Conn., following a long illness. Mr. Walsh had lived in Med- ford during I960 and 19U1 and was a member of the Southern Oregon Peace Offi cer's association. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church. Survivors include one son, Joseph Walsh, Medford; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Giorda nclla, Bridgeport, and eight grandchildren. Requiem mass will be read at the St. Augustine's Cath olic church in Bridgeport, Conn., Saturday. Russell Gates, 106 Willam ette ave., is undergoing basic unit training at Camp Roberts, Calif. He recently completed eight weeks of advanced indi vidual infantry training under the Reserve Forces act pro gram at Ft. Ord, Calif. Gates, who is scheduled to return to active duty Oct. 20, is a graduate of Medford High school and was employed by Weisfield's Jewelry Inc., be fore going on active duly. Book About Morse Said Not Violation Portland - HOT - The book, "The Record of Wayne Morse," is not an anonymous publication and does not vio late state law, the Multnomah county district attorney's of fice has ruled. Secretary of Slate Howell Appling referred the question to the district attorney's office after a complaint by Oregon Young Democrats. Dist. Atty. Chester Peccore i said his office found that the j book contained the name of author Harrison Spangler at ! least twice, it contained the statement that he lived in Portland, and it contained the name of the firm which pub lished it. Peccore said it "quite clear ly" did not violate the sec tion of Oregon's corrupt prac tices law which prohibits use of anonymous matter in elections. Locals Rally Schtdultd - The Old Timers Car club will hold its annual rally Sunday, Sept. 30. Members will meet at the A and W Root Beer stand at 9:30 a.m., where cars will be on display before the rally starts. Members should take picnic lunches, club officers said. Permits Issued - The Med ford building department is sued permits Thursday to G. A. Sloltenburg to erect a resi dence at 1537 Springbrook rd. at an estimated cost of $15. 000, and to Millcdge Conva lescent home, 12 South Or ange st., to install a sprinkler system at an approximate cost of $3,460. Employment Security Executives Convene Portland - IUPD - The ex ecutive board of the Inter state Conference of Employ ment Security Agencies open ed a three day meeting here Thursday. The meeting is being held in preparation of the organi zation's 26th annual confer ence here next Monday, Tues day and Wednesday. About 400 delegates are expected for the conference.
