Unit-ULn OBITUARIES BERTHA HACKLER Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Mae Hackler, 79, of 344 South Crape St., who died Friday, will be held Monday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Memories, Memory Gardens Funeral Home. The Rev. Katharine Bos worth of Unity Church will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Mrs. Hackler was born Feb. 23, 1883 in Missouri, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Young. She mar ried Edward S. Hackler, who died in 1942. She was a mem ber of Eastern Star and the United Brethren Church in Culver City, Calif., where she resided until moving to Med ford eight years ago. Survivors include a daugh ter, Mrs. M. E. (Elizabeth) Howell, Medford; a son, Ralph L. Hackler, Inglewood, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mary A. Brooke, Medford; a brother, Wilbur Young, Citrus Heights, Calif.; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. FLORENCE E. DOUGLAS Mrs. Florence E. Douglas, 729 West 13th St., died in a local hospital Saturday morn ing. Among the survivors are two daughters in Medford, Airs. Etta Crapper and Mrs. Minnie M. Bower. Conger Morris is in charge of funeral arrangements. ' Locals i J Speaker To Give Report On International Cancer Congress Held in Moscow Two Persons Injured In Two-Car Crash Phoenix Two persons suffered slight injuries in a two-car collision on Highway 99 just north of Phoenix Sat urday morning. Neither was hospitalized. The collision involved autos driven by William Clark Shepherd, 48, Eagle Point, and Don Harvey Stultz, 59, Tor rance, Calif. Shepherd com plained of back injuries, state police officers said, and Stultz received bruises and lacerations. Leaves Hospital Postmas ter Wayne Cummins of Horn brook, Calif., returned home Wednesday from Rogue Val ley hospital where he had been a patient since undergo ing surgery Sept. 7. During his illness, his clerk, Mrs. Cummins, is assuming the du ties of postmaster, and Mrs. Lawrence Brcceda is acting clerk. Brush Fire Ashland fire men extinguished a brush fire on Ridge rd. Saturday morn ing. The fire was reported at 9:29 a.m. Cause was undeter mined. There was no damage of conseguence. Grass Fire Fire of un determined cause burned a small area on the property of William Cate, Rt. 2, Box 187, Central Point, Saturday. The Central Point Rural Fire department responded at 10:17 a.m. The fifth annual meeting of the Jackson County unit of the American Cancer society will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Country club. Dr. Alfred C. Hutchinson, Portland, who has practiced medicine in the state since 194S, will speak. He will be introduced by Dr. Earl Law son. Robert Cronkhile will serve as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Robert Tull of the Con gregational Church of Med ford will give the invocation at the no-host dinner, to which the public is invited. Peterson, certified social worker, has joined the staff of the Jack son County Family and Child Guidance clinic as a profes sional volunteer, according to Dr. A. Erin Mcrkel, Jackson county public health officer. Mrs. Peterson is working a half-day a week as a psychi atric social worker. Mrs. Peterson obtained a oachelor of arts degree in so ciology from Willamette uni versity In 1956 and her mas ter's degree in social work from the University of Wash ington in 1958. She has been employed pre viously with the children's Orthopedic Hospital's social service department in Seattle; the diagnostic clinic of the Washington Association for Retarded Children, Seattle; and the Catherine Booth Ma ternity home and hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Peterson is a member i of the Academy of Certified I Social Workers, and the Na tional Association of Social Workers, Dr. Merkel said. Phelps has joined the Tru-Mix division of Con crete -Steel corporation as chief engineer. Homer A. Marx corporation vice presi dent has announced. Phelps will be in charge of construction, estimating and heavy earth moving equip ment. It is a new position with the firm. He is a graduate of the Uni versity of Alaska with a de gree in civil engineering and received his master of science degree in civil engineering construction from Stanford university. During the past four years he has been project engineer, engineer-estimator and for the last year as a Superintendent on two highway projects 'for Peter Kiewil Sons' company, in southern Oregon. Previously he was with the B-E-C-K McLaughlin and As sociates, Nome, Alaska; Mor-rison-Knudscn company, Fair banks, Alaska, and with Vitro Corporation of America, Flor ida.
