Si"1"'1- V v $ DWARFS LIGHT PLANES - A two engine C-46 dwarfs two light planes that it ran over when its brakes failed on landing at the airport in Hawthorne, Calif. No one was injured. The damage to the two planes which were parked next to the runway was estimated at $60,000. The C-46, which brushed a third plane holding two deputy sheriffs and two prisoners about to fly back to M jnroe, La., but did no damage, was just scratched. (UPI) Zilka Smither Is Bought by Firm Zilka Smither and com pany, Oregon investment banking and brokerage firm, with head offices in Portland, has been acquired by First California company, west coast investment firm, the companies announced Mon day The local office of the firm is at 14 South Central ave. The joint announcement was made by John F. Egan, president of the First Cali fornia company; and James H. Zilka, president, Henry J. Zilka, and Arthur W. Smither, board chairman of Zilka Smither company, all of Port land. Acquisition of the five of fices of the firm increases the representation of First Cali fornia company to 32 offices. Richard Watson, vice pres ident and manager of the Med ford office of Zilka Smither company, has been appointed manager of the M e d f o r d branch of First California company. First California company was organized in 1019. It is a member o the Paciic Coast Stock Exchange, the Midwest Stock Exchange, and is an as sociate member o the Amer ican Stock Exchange. . Oregon law designates 20 miles per hour as a reason able speed when passing school grounds or school cross ings when children are going to or from school or during recess periods. Area law enforcement agen cies sajd the first few weeks of school usually present spe cial problms for both drivers and children. Drivers forget school has started, and chil dren forget to watch out for cars in the excitement of play or going to and from home.
