"He was the best man I ever knew," said the globe circling evangelist who plans to attend funeral services for his father at Calvary Memo rial Church here today. Famed Photographer Marries Second Wife New York - (CPU - Yousef Karsh, the famed portrait photographer, was married to Estreilita Maria Machbar of Chicago Tuesday at St. Pat rick's Roman Catholic Cathe dral. Karsh's first wife, Solange, died last year. The men are Anthony Fer nandez, Kelso: Raymond T. Duall, Longvtew; Carl .. Pratt and Reuben G. Lenskc, both of Portland. Ore.: Joseph P. Delay, Spokane, and Burl E. Dalgliesh, Utah. They are charged with vio 1 a t i n g federal bankruptcy laws in connection with tim ber and land transactions. All except Lenske also are charg ed with conspiracy to violate J federal laws on interstate j transportation of money ob- j lamed by fraud. The sums allegedly in-1 volved in the fraudulent transactions total about S156, 000. One count concerns trans porting William B. Belcher of Days Creek, Ore., across slate lines in connection with an alleged fraudulent action in volving $40,000. Another charges fraudulent acquisition of a $25,000 certified check from a Trail, B.C. bank. Doctors diagnosed the cause as indigestion San Jose Doctor Jailed, Charged With Wife Torture San Jose, Calif. -UPII- A San Jose doctor was arrested to day on charges he used acid lo torture his pretty blonde model wife of five weeks. Police answered the call of Dr. Gcza de Kaplany early today and found Mrs. Hajna de Kaplany, 25, bound nude on the bedroom floor of their swank westside apartment. She was in great pain and crying hysterically. Her hands and feel had been tied with white electri cal cord and on a bedside table police found an attache case with bottles of sulphuric nitric and hydrocloric acid and surgical equipment such as gloves, gauze, tape and washcloths. The victim was taken to the hospital with third degree burns of the face and torso. Police said Mrs. De Kap lany had been a San Francisco fashion model before her mar riage and that she had been offered a job last week which her husband did not want her to take. Doctors at the hospital said that it was almost certain thai the acid would leave per manent scars. is eligible to apply for these loans. High school seniors may ' make application for a lo.m to be used during their fresh man year in college providing they have a B plus high school grade average. Students may apply for loans up to $1,000 for the school year, but they inu.st have a definite need for the money for educational pur poses. When applying for a loan, students complete a budget showing their antici pated financial needs. Has One Year The borrower has at least one year after he leaves col lege before any repayment of the loan is due. He may take up to ten years to repay the loan. If the borrower returns to college, enters military service or joins the Peace Corps, the repayment sched ule may be interrupted until he finishes. Interest on NDEA loans is charged al the rate of 3 per cent a year, starting one year after the student leaves col lege. If lite borrower inter rupts the repayment schedule for one of the approved rea sons, no interest is charged during that period. As an added benefit for stu dents planning to enter the teaching field, they pay only 50 per cent of the principal of the NDEA loan plus inter est at the rate of 3 per cent. This benefit applies to full-' time teachers in public ele-' mentary or secondary schools. The National Defense Stu-1 dent Loan funds are admin-1 istered by OSU through the Student Loan office. J. Firms Reminded Of Service Act With the impending release of reservists and National Guardsmen called lo active 1 duly during the Berlin crisis, I Elmer W. Donahoo, Jackson County service officer, re minded employers and labor organizations of the reemploy ment provisions of the Univer sal Military Training and Service act. Persons who left their jobs to serve the country during the emergency are entitled un der the law to be restored to their former positions with out loss of seniority, status, or rate of pay, according to the bureau of veterans reemploy ment rights, U.S. department of labor. The act gives veterans pro tection of their civilian job rights fop up to four years of military service, Donahoo noted. Because many had al ready served four years dur ing tile Korean conflict, the Act was amended last October to protect the rights of reserv ists and Guardsmen recalled lo duty in the recent military buildup. Under the amendment, those re-entering the military after Aug 1. 1961, will not have their prior service count ed in the four-year period The bureau's "Field Letter No 2D" has the full text of the Reemployment Act. explain ing the 1961 changes in qucs tion and answer form.
