Apostolic Faith Plans Promotion The Apostolic Faith church Sunday school will promote their primary and junior stu dents Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. opening exercises, with Mrs. William Withrow, superin tendent of the primary de partment, and Mrs. Bea Froh reich, superintendent of the Junior department, in charge. The church's Wagner Creek youth camp will open this year on Monday, Aug. 6, with the Rev. Loyce C. Carver, pas tor, as overseer. Last year ap proximately 80 Juniors at tended the camp. Mrs, Ernest Hurt, will be In charge of preparing meals. The regular fall and winter schedule of services will re sume Sunday with Sunday school at fl:30 a.m., worship at 11 a.m., young people's meeting at 3 p.m., and evan gelistic service at 7:50 p.m. with a musical prelude by the 3B-piece orchestra and 35 voice mixed chorus, under the direction of William E. Wnlden. Week night evangelistic services will be held each Tuesday and Friday at 8 p.m. White City Church Plans Bible School White City - "Adventuring With Christ" is the theme be ing used at the Dally Vaca tion Bible school at the Be rean Baptist church of White City. The school will be held every day next week from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Rev. R. A. Hadeen is the director of the school and Is being assisted by 10 teach ers. The closing program of the school will be held Friday, Aug. 10, at 7:30 p.m. In the church auditorium. Parents and friends of the children are welcome to attend. Communion will be observ ed at the worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. Mr. llndeen will speak on the subject, "Counterfeit Christianity." A mission ary letter from Miss Mabel Tyrrcl of NlKeria will be read In the missionary moment time of the service. Camp Meeting To Hear Local Pastor The Rev. W. E. Marlln, pas tor of the First Church of God. 2000 Crater Lake ave., Is scheduled to speak Thurs day, Aug. 9. at the morning service at the Oregon state camp meeting of the Churches of God. The camp meeting will be held Aug. 5 through 12 at Clackamas. Guest evangelist for the meeting is the Rev, Horace Sheppard, Philadel phia, Penn. Mrs. Glenn Me- Cullough will attend as local representative and will par ticipate in the annual busi ness mooting of the Associa tion of the Churches of God in Oregon, held during the convocation. Mr. Martin will speak Sun day at the 11 a.m. service on "A Power Greater Than All." Evangelist To Speak At Worship Service Sunday, the Rev. Richard DuHois, former movie star, will speak at the 11 a.m. wor ship service at the First As sembly of God church, 1108 West Main st. Pastor Robert E. Cull announced recently. Mr. DuBois has held the "Mr. America" title until 1961. Mr. DuBnls will be accom panied by his wife, a former "Miss Democracy." Mrs. Du Bois will speak at the 7:30 p.m. evangelistic service. FRIDAY, AUGUST 3. 1962 CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council Alto Youth They bought a linoleum runner for the aisle in the sanctuary and contributed $30 to the carpet or building fund. They were accompanied by Glen R. Murray, youth direct or, and Mrs. Murray. On Sunday they sang "Spirit of God," during the worship service. Stayed at Church The group of 14 stayed in the basement and Sunday school building while in Fort Jones, taking their sleeping bags with them and cooking their breakfasts and evening meals In the church kitchen. The members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service cooked and served the noon meal for them. For recreation they swam, hiked and went sight-seeing. On July 4 they picnicked on Scott river. Entertainment was also provided by Etna and Yreka members. Miss Janet Elsea of Yreka visited them for one day as a repre sentative of the Yreka MYF and some of the Fort Jones young people helped the group with the project. The trip was worked out for the Palto Alto group by the district superintendent of the Methodist church. Missionary To Speak Sunday Happy Camp - The Rev. Keith Bcntson, missionary leader from South America, will be guest speaker at Hap py Camp Community church Sunday. Mr. Bentson will speak In the 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. services. Mr. Bentson recently re turned to the United States on furlough from Cordoba Argentina where he serves as field director of the ministries of Overseas Crusades Inc. From his Cordoba head quarters, Mr. Bentson and his team of American and Ar gentina missionaries, minister to nearly 20 republics of South America through the monthly circulation of more than 250,000 copies of the Gospel paper, "La Voz." A native of Fresno, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Bentson and four children are making their home In San Jose, Calif. 'Know Your Enemy' Scheduled Message "Know Your Enemy" is the title of the message to be brought by John V. Heber- ling, minister, Sunday at the 11 a.m. service at Central Church of Christ, 1440 South Oakdalc ave. Bible school, with classes for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. The Senior Youth group meets Sunday at 8:30 p.m. At 2:30 p.m. Sunday after noon the Youth group will host other youth groups from Churches of Christ and Chris tian churches in the area at a singspiration time. At 7:30 p.m. the congrcga tion again meets for worship. Mr. Hcherlmg's topic at that time will be "Are You Going To The Fair City?" 'The Overcomer' To Be Sermon Topic . "The Overcomer" is su ject of the sermon planned for Sunday at the 11:15' a in. worship hour at Unity Church of Medford. Holly and Hav rino sts., by Ihe Rev. Kuthe Bosworth. The text is tak from Revelations 21:7. Church school begins at 9:45 a m. Sunday, with classes for all age groups. The church prayer ministry on Wednes day at 11 a.m. will bo the only mid-week church activity, as all study groups are now in summer recess until after La bor day. Shelley, minister of the Church of Christ, Third and Oak ts , Central Point, will speak Sunday at the 10 43 a.m. worship service on "Thou Hast Said." 'Treasure Trove' Is Sermon Topic "A Treasure Trove" is the title of the sermon which the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans will preach at both services Sun day morning at the First Christian church! It is based on Matthew 13:34. The youth choir will sing a number at the first serv ice and the chancel choir will sing Schubert's "Holy, Holy, Holy" at the second service. Mrs. Arthur Hotho and Mrs. Emll Johnson will host the coffee hour following the sec ond worship service. All youth fellowship groups will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nancy Bogener will lead the Chi Rho worship period. The Middlers will have a recrea tion night and play Softball. Kirkland West will preach the first of a series of ser mons on the five greatest questions In the Bible entitled, "Am I My Brother's Keeper?" A quartet composed of Mrs. Charles Champlin, soprano, Miss Diana Hunter, contralto, Paul Moore, tenor, and Herb ert Roberts, bass, will sing "God So Loved the World." Mrs. Champlin and Miss Hunt er will present a duet ar rangement of "The Lord is My Shepherd." Senior High fellowship will meet Sunday at 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Graff, 31 Geneva St., for a program leU by Sandy Irving One-half of the high school fellowship will leave Monday for a retreat at the Heyer mans beach home near Brookings. Westminster The sacrament of the Lord's supper will be observed at the 11 a.m. worship service Nazarenes Plan Guest Speaker The Rev. Keith Wiseman, Yreka, Calif., will preach Sunday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Hol ly st., in the absence of t h e pastor, the Rev. Harold M. Sanner, who is on vacation. Mr. Wiseman, who is the pas tor of the Church of the Na zarene in Yreka, will speak at the 11 a.m. worship service. Music for the morning service, which is under the direction of Perry Christiansen, mini ster of music, will be the sanc tuary choir singing a medley entitled "The Cross," and Mrs. Rod Newman singing a soprano solo. The Gideons International will present the message at the 7 p.m. service. Lithia Church Lists Sunday Schedule - Ashland - Fred Rieiner, has been employed as minister for the Lithia Church of Christ, which meets in the Women's Civic clubhouse on Winburn Way, Ashland. Mr. Riemer had previously been with churches in Cal gary, Alberta, Canada and Ce darville, Calif. Sunday he will speak at the 10:45 p.m. service on "What Constitutes Authority in Christianity?" Parsonage Built By Rural Church White City - A new three bedroom parsonage has been completed by the Berean Bap tist church of White City. Pas tor and Mrs. R. A. Hadeen and family recently moved into the new structure, which is located adjacent to the church building. Everett Bostwick, one of the church deacons, was the general contractor in charge of the building program. Scott Darby, another deacon of the church, was the de signer, and Mrs. Ray Palm was in charge of the decorat ing. The house is valued at $14,500. An appreciation banquet was held by the church re cently for all who had helped with volunteer labor in the building of the new parson age. Ashland Methodists Tell Sermon Topic Ashland - Dr. P. Malcolm Hammond will speak on ' Tragedy of Errors" at both services of the First Metho dist church, North Main and Laurel sts., Ashland, Sunday. The services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m. A coffee hour will follow the second service. Commissions will meet in the church Monday at 7 p.m , and the official board will meet at 8 p.m. in the fire side room. The Medford and Central Point delegations of Jehovah's Witnesses have returned from the Courageous Ministers district convention in Eureka which ended July 29. During the convention 113 persons were baptized. Highlight of the convention was the Sunday public talk, "Take Courage-God's King dom Is at Hand" by Lester M. Dugan, world headquarters representative. A crowd of some 3,964 persons heard the talk. Weekly Plans Told By Church ot Christ Lloyd Bridges, minister, will speak twice Sunday at the Church of Christ, 1701 West Main st. His sermon at the 10:45 a.m. worship service will be titled "Substitutes." Harvey Martin will direct the congregational singing of hymns at this service. Sunday at 7 p.m. Mr. Bridges will offer a character analysis in the sermon on "Luke." Simon, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran church, will again be in his pulpit for the 11 a.m. communion serv ice Sunday. The plans for the early service have not been com pleted. It will be held at 8:15 a.m. Due to the absence of the I Rev. Albert Nickodemus of Grace Lutheran church, Ash land. Mr. Simon will conduct the 8:30 a.m. service in that church. OREGON Methodist Church Annual Picnic Planned Sunday First Methodist church will hold its fourth annual all church picnic Sunday in the north end of Hawthorne park. The picnic will begin at 1 p.m. Each family is to take food and table service. The Methodist men will take tables and chairs from the church. The Woman's so ciety will provide the hot and cold drinks. The builders class will furnish the games and contests. The Shipmates class will be the official hosts for the picnic. They will recieve the food and provide the serv ing spoons. Dr. George Roseberry will preach on "Whom Do You Worship" at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services. The youth choir will sing "The Heavens Resound" at the 9:30 a.m. service, and Mrs. D. G. MacDougall and Larry Hob son will sing "Saviour, When Night Involves the Skies" at the 11 a.m. service. The Senior High Methodist Youth fellowship will mtet at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The College Age fellowship will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the parsonage, 310 Hollywood ave. The annual church picnic will be held next Wednesday, Aug. 8, at TouVelle park. A pothiek dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. Jacksonville -.. Gerald Wheeler, missionary in the Philippines, will be guest speaker in the First Presby terian church, Jacksonville, Sunday morning.
