Thil program it part of a ten session Mom and Tot clan now being conducted at the YMCA with Mn. Ella Darling at instructor. Mothers are invited to take their small children with their life jackets. A swim period will follow the demonstration en abling the participants to try the techniques which they they have learned. Anyone wishing to attend this program may call the YMCA, 772-6295. MANOR-ISMS .... By ETHELYN EVANS Evidently Rogue Manor members have chosen the ter race patio st Rogue Valley Country club as a favorite rendezvous. Almost impos sible to go there without meeting a number of our members enjoying the view and the good food. When valley breezes are too, too cool, they flee to the indoor Mr. and Mrs. Mark Goldy entertained a number of their long-time Medford friends re cently. After dinner at the Country club, all returned to the Goldy's spacious apart ment for an evening of cards. Those enjoying the party were Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Nye, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Thorn dike and Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Gray, A Manor tour for Manor membcrs-ycl! Each afternoon for one week, members have been taken on tours of the mechanical rooms. It actually takes wonderful-if not fearful-mechanical equipment In charge of engineers and elec tricians, day and night, to keep this big plant running smoothly. This marvelous equipment is housed In base ment and sub-basement and docs everything for us: air conditioning, heal, water, electricily, elevators and what-have-you. We truly have a small city in this Hilton-on-the-Hill. Did you know that we have a civil defense station on the tenth floor of our Manor? It Is connected to a special radio antenna erected by the city of Medford and is equipped with receiver and transmitter. 11 is in charge of our mem ber: Mr. L. L. Brosius, Valen tine, who has purchased other valuable equipment, which would enable him to duplicate and re-broadcast Important messages. Mr. Brosius Is on call at all times, records daily fall-out, cooperates with the forest fire patrol and always answers a 1 p.m. roll call. An interesting and worthwhile hobby, we would say. We are not (tying to re verse the season by talking about Christmas in July; but our members found out about a "Card Lady", Mrs. Mary E. Waters, Grants Pass, who makes over Christmas cards for her "boys" in the service Bnd Veterans' hospitals. Ray Neptune, Burllngame, posted a notice on our bulletin board and collected nearly 3000 cards for Mrs. Waters. She works at this hobby the year round. One Manor activity that knows no summer Is that of showing scientific and educa tional films on Tuesday after noons in the lecture room. Dr. William Giles, Oakland, secures these films and pre sents llicin nearly always to a capacity audience. Films on Industry, education, the pro fessions and travelogues all of them top-drawer produc tions. Our Rible class on Wednes day evenings continues through the summer, also, with Dr. Earl Renbow, Cor vallis. taking over for Mrs. Robert Bridge, A b c 1 1 n e, Texas, who is taking a vaca tion. And the Rev. Eric Ro balhan, who moved into the Manor recently from Central Point, conducts communion service In our chapel. This service was Initiated by Can on Edwin Moss, La gun a Beach. He and Mrs. Moss have hern in England for sev eral months now. Willi a few notable excep tions, of course, Rogue Manor members have a well rievel cped ens-o'-humor. All of us get a laugh out of the clas sic identification description: "You know, that little old lady with gray hair and glasses." Also, we get a few kicks out of some of the re actions In the valley when the Manor address is given. For instance, when one member said she lived in the Manor, a woman replied, "Oh, you poor thing!" At another time a clerk remarked, "The Man or may be a home for old folks, but some who come in here are lively little devils." In a gathering of people re cently, when "age" and the Manor were mentioned, I heard my young nephew say: "Don't get the idea that the Manor is an old folks' home. That crowd really 'swings'- Local Daughters Attend Meeting Mrs. Ruby Mallory, presi dent of Ella Deuel Hubbs tent, Daughters of Union Vet erans, Mrs. Carrie Milncs, and Miss Sadie Del Mater at tended the department con vention of the group recently in Eugene. Miss Joan Guycr, Medford, was elected new department patriotic instructor for Ore gon. Mrs. Pearl M. Hain, Lansing, Mich., national presi dent of the DUV, was also present. The tent will meet Wednes day, July 18, at Maple park, for a picnic. Members are ask to take covered dishes, table service, and drinks. busy all the time". After all, the ability to laugh AT one self and WITH other people is a priceless asset. Pythian Club Holds Meeting in Ashland Pythian club met recently at the home of Mrs. John Hall, Ashland. Mrs. Jack Hall as sisted with the meeting. During the session members voted to hold a picnic August 14 in Maple park, for all members and their families. Those winning games were Mrs. Clarence Walt, Mrs. John Russell, Mrs. Walter Gro chocki, Mrs. Harry Barne burg, and Mrs. P. M. Al dredge. Republican Women Cancel Meeting Jackson County unit of the Oregon Federation of Worn-' en's Republican clubs has an nounced that the July uieet- j ing has been canceled. Monday: 1 p.m.-Crater chapter, Grandmother clubs of Amer ica, home of Mrs. Roy Kelly, Grand Master To Visit Here Medford lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, will be host to Grand Master Walter V. Murphey, Recdsport, on July 17. Mr. Murphey was elected to this post during the Odd Fellow convention held in Medford in May. Jacksonville, Ashland, Cen tral Point and Gold Hill lodges will join with Medford at this meeting to welcome the new grand master. The third degree was con ferred on James Gray at the meeting held July 10 and Special District Deputy Grand Master Walter Craig paid his official visit. He spoke brief ly on the future of Odd Fel lowship in this jurisdiction. Electa Social Club Meets at Newmans Electa Social club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Newman, Newtown street, re cently for a picnic dinner, games and cards.
