Tha Church Ceremony Held Mis Sylvia Sidney Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Smith, 1033 Reddy avenue, became the bride of Keith Lyle Archer, Anaheim, Calif., in a ceremony held June .10 at St. Mark'i Episcopal church. The Rev. Edwin C. Cox of ficiated at the one o'clock afternoon rites attended by relatives and close friends of the couple. A reception, at tended by more than 100 rela. tivcs and friends, was held at Mon Desir inn following the ceremony. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Archer, Springfield, Ore., who were unable to attend. The event, in the form of a surprise, was held In the garden at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mis. Dan Snares. Assisting were the couple's nlhrr daughters, the Misses Evelyn and Janice Desoza. About 80 persons attended The wedding cake served for refreshments was made and decorated by their daugh ters. The ceram'e bride and bridegroom figurine which al so decorated the rake had been made by Mrs. Irene Wtl lenbrlnk and It was Inscribed In silver with the couple's names and their wedding date. The couple was presented gifts and a silver dollar tree. Mrs. Desoza was given an or chid corsage by the family. The couple were n-irried in Klamath Kails, Ore., on June .1, 1937 and they have lived in Grenada all of their married years. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Saw yer and children, Dana and John of Reno, Nev., Mr. and Mrs. Tony Soares of Gridley, Calif., and Miss Linda Trutl man, San Francisco, were among out-of-town guests. Also among those who at tended were Mr. and Mrs. Tnnv Desoza of MeCloud, Calif , brother md sister-in-law nf Thomas Desoza. The i broihrr had been bet man al tha honored guests' wedding. ' Archar (Sylvia law and sister of the bride groom, represented the bride groom's family. Pink and white carnations decorated the church. Mrs. Ernest Conrad played the or gan wedding music. Bride Waari Satin The bride wore a floor length gown of Ivory satin fashioned with fitted bodice, long sleeves and sweetheart neckline accented with rose medallions and seed pearls. The dress had first been worn by Mrs. George Rambo at her wedding. Her elbow length veil was held by a Chantilly lace bonnet trimmed with seed pearls. The party also honored Mr. and Mrs. Merle Freeman of Grenada who had observed their twenty-fifth anniversary in June. Both couples were presented gifts of silver dollars from the group of 2.1 persons. Mrs. Beach Guest In Ashland Home Ashland Mrs. I.aura Reach, who has heen visiting with her daughter, Mrs. F.lrinn Scripler, 2B3 Sienir drive, and with her sislrr, Mrs. Ruth Reller, since early June, re turned Monday to her home In Vancouver, Wash. While in Ashland Mrs Beach saw two of her grand children receive their di plomas from Southern Oregon college. Morion Scripler and Mrs. Laurel Anne (Scripterl Slrieby and her husband Rod ney Striebv all were gradu ated. On the evening of June 22 1 she attended the wedding of Morion Scripler and Miss Su zanne Rordaux at the First Presbyterian rhurrh. Her single strand of pearls are a family heirloom, originally owned by the late Mrs. W. L. Greenleaf, her maternal grandmother. Mr. Smith escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. Miss Jerilyn Smith attended her sister. She wore a pastel blue taffeta frock overlaid with matching chiffon. Her veil matched her frock and she carried a nosegay of pink and white carnations and stcphanotis. Robert Allen Barnes, Brownsville, served as best man for his brother-in-law. Her accessories were bone white and her corsRge was a while orchid. Mrs. Barnes wore a pastel pink silk brocaded frock with matching accessories and white orchid corsage. Pos ton. pink roses and white stock. Mrs. Martin Luther and Mrs. Poston cut and served the cake and Mrs. Elliott Becken and Mrs. Boyd Car stensen presided at the punch bowls. Miss Nancy Beckon was in charge of the guest book. Assisting with serving were Mrs. Glenn La Barre and Mrs. Raul Wulf, Homestead, Fla., cousin of the bride. Miss Constance King was at the gift (able. The newlyweds traveled to Lake Tahoe on their wedding trip and are now at home in Anaheim, Calif. The bride attended the Uni versity of Washington, Uni versity of Hawaii and was graduated from Southern Ore gon colleue. She Is a teacher j in Ihe Orange, Calif., elemen tary schools. The bride is also a granddaughter of Ihe late William L. Greenleaf, a noted Shakespearean aclor, scholar and teacher. Mr. and Mrs, Greenleaf were long-time val ley residents and were active in civic affairs. The bridegroom is a student in engineering at Long Beach college and is a grade engl j neer for Boddum Construc tion company, Compton, Calif. Among the out of town guests were Diane W u 1 f. Mill Elaint Morrill Bogota Teacher And Minister Engaged to Wed Ashland Mrs. Bertha Mor rill, 829 Altamont street, last week announced the engage ment of her daughter, Elaine Christine, to Hie Rev. Robert A. Lloyd of Chitrc, Panama. The announcement was made during Miss Morrill's short va cation from her teaching po sition in Bogota, Colombia, at Collegio Americano. The bride-to-be, who is the daughter of Mrs. Morrill and the late Rev. Curtis Morrill, is a graduate of Ashland High school and of Whitworth col lege, Spokane, Wash., where she returned recently for her commissioning in the Fourth Memorial church. She is fly ing to Bogota to resume her work in the mission school. The Rev. Mr. Lloyd is serv ing in Panama with the Cen tral American Mission. ' " V i i Newlywed Couple Here; Honored at Reception Central Point - St. Barna ba.s Episcopal church in Port land was the scene of the marriage of Miss Norma Joy Phifer to Dennis Ford Faulk ner on Saturday, June 30. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman Howard Phifer, Portland, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred rick Russell Faulkner, 693 Head road, Central Point. The Rev. John Day read the ceremony at seven o'clock in the evening, and Mr. Phifer gave his daughter in marriage. White gladiolus and chrysan themums decorated the altar. The bride wore a gown of imported Chantilly lace over taffeta designed on Empire lines with scoop neckline and short sleeves. The skirt was adorned at the back with a bow and streamers of taffeta. A headdress of organza roses on lace held her elbow-length tulle veil and she carried pha- laenopsis orchids and green ivy. Wean Cross She wore an heirloom cross given her by her grand mother, Mrs. Lowell B. Gra bcl, Detroit, Mich. Mrs. William F. Cummins, Corvallis, Ore., was the bride's attendant. She wore a rose-colored floor - length frock of peau de soie fashion ed with a semi-belled skirt and carried pale green spider chrysanthemums. Her head dress matched her gown. Capt. Fredrick Hal Faulk ner, Lubbock, Tex., was best man for his brother and ush ers were Eric Hudson Phifer and Marc Layton Phifer, the bride's brothers, and Gregg Faulkner, brother of the bridegroom. Robert Jones, Portland, lighted the candles. The reception which follow ed the ceremony was held at the home of the bride's par ents, with about 50 guests at tending. For the wedding and recep tion the bride's mother wore a gown of aquamarine color ed lace with furs and her flowers were a white pink throated orchid. The bride groom's mother wore a lace sheath of soft green with a hat of bugle beads and veil ing. Her corsage was a white and gold-tinted orchid.
