At the same time he served notice on Nationalist President Chiang Kai-shek that the United States still held him to his promise not to take military action against the mainland without U.S. consent. The double-barreled warn ing cme in the course of a presidential comment on the "very large movements of Chinese Communist forces" into the coastal area opposite the Nationalist-held offshore islands of Quemoy and Matsu. i Kennedy said the purpose of the Red moves was "not I clear" but there was a possi bility of "aggressive action Park Personnel Completes Training A training school for new summer employee at Crater Lake National park was com pleted yesterday, according to Marvin Nelson, administra tive officer for the park. Participating as students in the program were seven new seasonal rangers, seven ranger naturalists, and six fire con trol aides. The training began Monday. New personnel was shown a variety of films, and heard lectures on equipment care and procedure, park policy, history and service, law en forcement and other topics. Park Superintendent W. Formosa lies 100 miles further east. The President said the United States would take ac tion if there were any Com munist assault on Quemoy and Matsu which appeared to threaten Formosa itself. He said "any threat to the offshore islands" which were not specifically covered in the Chinese-American mutual de fense treaty "must be judged in relation to its wider mean ing for the safety of Formosa and the peace of the area." ITALIAN WORKERS STRIKE OVER WAGES Rome-lll'li-More than one million workers were out on strike throughout Italy today. Printers employed by the nation's major newspapers walked out until next Friday. A 48-hour strike by metal workers in the Fiat Automobile Works in Turin closed the plant. Both strikes were called for wage increases. MOSCOW ACCUSES NATIONALIST CHINA Moscow-HTIuMoscow radio charged Wednesday night that Nationalist China seeks "direct intervention" against Com munist China in the Formosa Strait crisis. The radio said Communist China, which has been re ported massing its troops near the Nationalist-held offshore islands, is an "ally and friend" of the Soviet Union. SAUDI ARABIAN KING ARRIVES IN VIENNA Vienna-ilU'll- King Saud of Saudi Arabia arrived here Wednesday for a two week visit with an entourage of body guards carrying gold sabres. The king flew here from Rome in a chartered jetliner. He will undergo complete physical examination by Viennese doctors. AMERICANS DEPORTED TO SWITZERLAND Munich, Germany - IIIPII - American jazi trumpeter Chet Baker and drummer Donald Brown were deported to Switzer land Wednesday after narcotics charges against them were dropped. Baker's German attorney, Rolf Bossi, said the charges were dropped when authorities issued a three-year ban on their re-entry into Germany.
