OREGON National Service Life Insurance May Be Reopened Washington -UPI- H o u e and Senate leaden and the Budget Bureau have reached an agreement for early con gressional action to let World War II and Korean war vet erans reinstate lapsed 01 in surance or take out new poli cies. A roadblock against passage of a $100 million cosl-ol-liv-1ns increase in service-con nected compensation p a y- m?nts also was removed. Both nieces of legislation are given a good chance of iinal passage. Bills Deadlocked The insurance and compen sation bills had been dead locked between the House and the Senate. The House has voted several times to in crease service-connected com pensation payments, and the Senate also has approved it but with an amendment to al low reopening of National Service Life Insurance. The administration has stood firm against the NSLI reopening on the ground that It was not justified. As a re sult both bills were stymied. The Budget Bureau and the Veterans Administration ad- Vised Congress Wednesday that the administration would asree In an insurance reopen ing bill provided certain changes are made. Service Dates Listed Under the proposed com promise any veteran of mili tary service between Oct. 8, 1D40, and Dec. 31, 1B56, pro vided he is now out of the service, could reinstate, or I take out for the first time, up to $10,000 in National Serv ice Life insurance. Of the nearly 20 million men who were in service dur ing that period, only about 5.0 million still carry their GI policies. The Veterans Admin istration estimates that about one million more would take advantage of- the new priv ilege. Waldo Project Committee Picked Portland -(1IPP- J. Herbert Stone, regional U. S. torester, has named 10-member com mittee to advise on develop ment of the Waldo Lake area of the Willamette National Forest. The committee will work with Supervisor David R. Gibney on specific develop ment of the area. Members Include: J.
