Ray Collet was installed past president of the Eagles lodge and William Buchanan Girl Scout Cou One-Week Camping Session Two one-week sessions for Intermediate campers have i been made available at Girl Scout established Camp Low Echo, running from July IS to July 22 and July 22 to July 28, Rogue Valley Girl Scout council announces.' These new one week sessions are for girls from the fifth through the ninth grades. Ac cording to Information from the Girl Scout office, these new sessions will in no way change the schedule for the two week intermediate ses aions. Girls interested should contact the Girl Scout office, 500 East Main street, phone 772-8912, for costs. It has been announced that many of the counselors on this year's camp staff play musical instruments. Any girls who have instruments and would like to take them to camp to further their own musical talent or to add to the group, singing are wel come to do so. Travelers At Hornbrook Home Hornbrook - Guests on Wednesday and overnight at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chapman were Mr. and Mrs. Roland R. Leslie of Los Angeles. The two women are cousins. Mr. Leslie is a re tired teacher of science and mathematics at the Southgate High school near Los Ange les and Is now doing substi tute teaching of geography on a college level. On leaving here, they were to spend two days in th Rogue river valley with an eye to buying property for a home, then were continuing on to Portland and to the World's Fair at Seattle. Also visiting at the Chap man home on Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Edward N. Ove Sr. of Yankton, S.D., and their 10-ycar-old son David. They were enroute to Santa Cruz, Calif., to visit a daugh ter, after having attended the World's Fair at Seattle, and they, too, are considering purchasing a home and prop erty in either the Rogue river valley or northern California. Mr. Ov is a retired civil engineer and Mrs. Ove is a teacher of retarded children. The two women were friends in Fremont, Nebr., over 20 years ago, and had not seen each other during that time. Annual Rose Show Held; Winners Are Announced Rose growers from several parts of southern Oregon re ceived awards for their flow ers entered in the eighth an nual show of the Medford Rose society held Saturday at Medford High school. Top honors were taken by two Grants Pass men who often win prizes for their fine roses. Charles Bothwell took the sweepstakes prize, and the queen of the show was grown by Victor Boehl. The flower was a dark red Crimson Glory. Vaughn Quackenbush, Med ford, was runner-up for the sweepstakes prize and Mr. Bo ehl also grew the runner-up for queen of the show, a Peace. Dormitory sponsors go through extensive interviews before being chosen for their responsibilities in the dormi tories. They help students with study and personal prob lems; assist In new student orientation programs; and help to organize and direct dormitory affairs and social programs. In return they re ceive $20 per month for their services. Miss Jones will be a senior in the school of home eco nomics. Her home address is 1702 Ridgeway. The quality of the roses en tered in the show this year were said to be good, in spite of the severe damage to bush es during last winter's cold weather. Girls who flew up to Girl Scout Troop 55 were Elba Corona, Janice and Joan Czmowski, Melisa Deuel, Me linda Fluck, Cheryl Governor, Renee Holderness, Cynthia Kellogp, Dana Yule, Lill Jo Norton, Gail McGrady and Karen Vaterlous. Fly-up fairy for the event was Rita Neel. The program included pres entation of colors, pledge of allegiance to the flag, and singing the Star Spangled Banner. , The welcome was given by Mrs. Kenneth Fluck, a troop committee woman. The fourth grade patrol put on a drill, and third grade patrol pre sented the Brownie story with Maurie Kenney as reader. Sue Foley was grandma; Rita Neel played role of grandfather; Shirley Sutton was Mary; and Teresa Dotson, the brother. Brownies, sang the "Smile" song. Girl Scout laws, slogan and motto were gl' 2n. Brownies who were promoted in the ceremony went through an arch to stand beside girls of Girl Scout Troop 121. Here they received their pins and were declared Girl Scouts Troop 55. Girl Scouts sang the hello song, followed by Girl Scout promise and hand shake. Then all sang "Girl Scouts Together." The fly-up ceremony concluded with the retiring of colors and "Taps." Troop 55 leaders are Mrs. Paul ' Holderness and Mrs. Ivan Governor. Other troop committeewomen are Mrs. Ogden Kellogg, and Mrs. H. S. Deuel Jr. Among the moth ers attending were Mrs. P. E. Several members of the local court are planning to attend. It was announced that the months of July and August were , declared vacation months, but a practice session has been scheduled for Au gust 29, to prepare for the of ficial visit of the grand royal matron. Order of the Amar anth of the State of Califor nia, on September 27. At the next meeting plans will be completed for the August 5 picnic and conclude business matters before the yacation.
